Searching for descendants of James HOOEY who was born in Cavan County, Ireland abt 1780. He and his wife ? had seven children, all born in Cavan Co, Ireland: Sarah b 1798, Joseph b 1800, James b 1804, Elizabeth b 1806, John b 1807, Robert b 1812, and William b 1817. Some between 1817 and 1836 all of the children with the exception of Sarah (who, having married, moved to Ontario in 1821) moved to Clinton County, NY. I would suppose with their parents, but I have not info to support that. I have the following location of death/burial: Joseph (m Elizabeth ?) Saranac/Redford Cem; James (m Elisa ? abt 1836) ?/Glenwood Cem; Elizabeth (m John ANDERSON) West Chazy/E. Beekmantown Cem.; John (m. Jane DAVIDSON abt 1842) Redford/Redford Cem; Robert (m. ? abt 1832) ?/Riverside Cem; William (m Martha ? abt 1841 2SP) Redford/Redford Cem.

You write;

I have found this fellow buried on what appears to be a HOOEY plot in the Redford Cemetery.

"William NELSON of the 9th Reg't/died Feb 1,1864/ae 27yrs"
He left his farm & 'money due me from the Army' to his
sister, Mary Ann- and other things to the people who took care of him as he lay dying- His will mentions CLARK, MYERS,
McKLUSKEY,& HANLON folks but no HOOEY's.

Do you know what his HOOEY connection might be? Or is the raised area where he is buried, not really a family plot?

Jim, There may very well be a family plot in Redford Cemetery as there are at least four HOOEY couples buried there, but I don't know that for sure. Perhaps he was a sibling of one of the spouses. I do not have the last name of a couple of them. If this were the case, he'd have been quite a bit younger (maybe 15 years); though, this is not unusual when there were so many children born in a family. Sorry, I can't be of more help. I just started researching this family. I will keep your information on file in case I come across it.

Clinton County, N.Y. Carrie Hooey and Ira Wilson are my maternal great grandparents. They had (according to my aunt) four children, Spencer Ira Wilson (my grandfather), Florence, William, Margarete. My grandfather married Mary Angela Gleason also of Clinton County. The Gleason side of the family is well researched on www.buckley.org. This is the first bit of info on the Wilson side of the family. thanks

Here is a HANLON mingled with HOOEYs & WILSONs in Redford Cemetery, Saranac:

While researching my Wilsons of Clinton Co., NY, I obtained ALL Wilson cemetery transcriptions via the McLellan collection at SUNY Plattsburgh's Feinberg Library. To keep track & sort what appears to be 4 distinct
Wilson families, 1 is mine, I entered all cemetery & will data I've collected into a Family Tree Maker file of their own. Below is an outline of data I have on the Wilsons buried in Redford Cemetery. It does seem to link the names for you.

John HOOEY b1810 and Jane DAVIDSON b1822 are my 3rd great grandparents. They had a daughter named Mary Jane b1842 who married William HERWERTH.

I have a family tree that I have been working on if you are interested.

If anyone else has further info on DAVIDSON,HOOEY or HERWERTH I'd be really grateful!

Hi Jim - There is yet another HOOEY/MYERS connection. Charles E. MYERS b1858 d1911 married Harriet (Hattie) E. HOOEY b1858 d1931. Harriet was the daughter of John HOOEY and Jane DAVIDSON. They were all of Clinton County.

John HOOEY was the sister of Sarah HOOEY.
