Elizabeth married Parker Preslar. They were my grandmothers grandparents. I believe I have a picture of Elizabeth and Parker. Unfortunately my scanner is not working right now. Additionally, my mother may have their bible which I will call her and see if if yields anything on Elizabeth's side. Currently, I have Preslar information but nothing on Elizabeth's side. Let you know if mother has anything further. If you want anything on Preslar let me know.

I would like to have a picture of Parker and Elizabeth when your scanner is working. Also, any information that you have like their marriage date--the one I have just can't be right since she would have been 1 year old at the time. Do you know when they moved to Texas? Her brother, Samuel B. Gray, moved in the late 1830's. He eventually lived in Blanco Co. I think their parents were William E. Gray and Catherine Rodgers Dulin. I can send you a copy of the information that one of my dad's cousins worked up on their children.

So far my information indicates that only Samuel B. and Elizabeth as well as some of their nieces and nephews moved to Texas.

While looking through the 1860 Llano Co. census, I found Parker (43, NC) and Elizabeth M. Presley (40, NC), which I think might be this couple. The children that were listed at that time were Nancy R, 17, NC; Mary L., 14, MS; William J., 12, MS; Sarah Ann, 10, TX; Ophelia E., 7, TX; Frances Q., 5, TX; and Samuel P., 3; TX. If this is the right family they moved to Texas about 1850, by way of Mississippi. When did they move to Shackelford Co.? How many more children did they have? So far, I have not located them in either the 1870 or 1880 census index. I did find Elizabeth (78, NC) in Shackelford Co. in 1900 living with L.H. and Fannie Rutledge .

Parker Preslar (son of Joshua & Susannah (Parker) Preslar was b. 28 Sept. 1817 Anson Co. , NC, d 20 June 1893 Callahan Co. , Tx. bur. Dennis Cenetery Moran Tx., married 19 jan. 1840 Anson Co. NC, to Elizabeth Matilda Gray, b 1 Jan. 1822 Mecklenberg Co. NC, d. 1 Jan. 1904 Moran, Shackleford Co., Tx. bur. Dennis Cemetery, Moran, Tx. At the time of their death, Parker and Elizabeth were living near Moran, TX, and were buried in the Dennis Cemetery directly across from the home of their daughter Alice Dennis in Schakelford Co. Tx.

Parker Prelsar, left NC with his brothers, Caleb and Joshua (Jr.) and migrated to TN, along with their uncle Stephen, and all his sons and their families. This would have been around 1853. Joshua and Caleb (Cobb) were enumerated in the 1860 census of Henderson Co., TN. Again, according to family, Parker went on alone to AL or MS and finally to TX. He was enunerated in the 1860 census (p.382) of Llano Co., Tx as Parker Presley.

One story has Parker first in Lockhart, Caldwell Co., Tx in 1851. The 1860 census indicated that William J. was born in MS in 1848 and an older sister was born in MS in 1846. It is also reported that the Preslars and Staytons migrated to TX at the same time from NC, and two daughters of Parker married into the Stayton family.

Childred of Parker and Elizabeth reported to be

Susan Catherine Preslar b. Nov. 1841 in NC, d. as a result of bullet wounds received in Indian raid east of Ft. Sumner, NM, bur. Ft. Sumner NC m. ___ Wilhoit

Florida Texannab Preslar, b. 24 Nov. 1860 Llano Co. Tx, d. 8 July 1944 Clyde Callahan Co. Tx. bur. Dennis Cem., Moran Tx. m____Ritledge.

Alice Gray Preslar, b. 11 July 1863, d 1954, M. Joe Dennis [this is my greatgrandmother]

The Preslar history in the US appears to go back to John Valentine Preslar who married Anna Christina Franse 1669 to 1695 in that range. Most of the family it seems can be traced through Anson County NC. Valentine Preslar appears at age 40 to have arrived in London on May 3, 1709 from the German Palatine region through Holland, Catholic, occupation Husbandman and vine dresser. Preslars appeared to have change their religion to Protestant in order not to be sent back and allowed to continue to the US where their names appear in the Reformed Dutch Church in New York. They originally landed in Plymouth and were shipped to New York quarantined due to an epidemic of Typhus. From there they migrated to Maryland, Virginia and then Anson NC around 1740.

I found the picture, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how either to download or print it. WhenI print it, I get about 3/4 of the picture. Any suggestions?

Here is the information that I have on Elizabeth M. Gray Preslar's family. I got this information from a cousin of my father, and compiled my list from his chart. I only have proof on Sam B. Gray's family (her brother).

Before I start my list, just a tidbit to pass along. There is a legend in the Gray family that they were descended from Pocohantas. However, I have found absolutely no proof of this.

William E. Gray (ca 1780, NC - ca 1848, AL) married Catherine Rogers Dulin (ca 1785 NC? - ca 1855 MS)

1. Henry G. Gray (1809 NC - 1892 NC)

2. Levi Rogers Gray (1811 NC - 1885 NC) married Jane Camella Shields (1819 SC - 1855 SC) Some of their children came to Texas.

3. Joshua Mathias Gray (1813 NC - killed during Civil War)

4. Samuel B. Gray (1815 NC - ca 1899 TX) married Sarah Matilda Patton (1826 AL - 1889 TX). Married on 16 Nov 1843 in Red River Co., TX. The first record I have found of him in Texas is 1840. These are my gr-gr grandparents.

5. Nancy Ophelia Gray (ca 1818 NC - ??) married William Silas Alexander (1803 - killed in Civil War). Married 7 March 1835.

6. John W. Gray(ca 1820 NC - ??)

7. Elizabeth M. Gray married Parker Preslar. You have filled in information on this couple.

8. William M. Gray (1826 NC - killed in Civil War).

Have you been able to check with your mother and see if there is Gray family information in the Bible?
Sandra

Thanks for the info. You might try copying the picture to a photo editor then working with it. I will see my mother in April and will look at the bible to see what it has.

Parker and Elizabeth were my gg-grandparents. Samuel Parker Preslar was my g-grrandfather and Ophelia Preslar was my grandmother. I was so excited to find a picture of Parker and Elizabeth. I decreased the right margin to .25 and was able to print a better picture.

I am decended from Joshua Mathias Gray b.1813/15 in Anson County NC, d. in Civil War, the 1850 census has the family living in Tippah County MS and the 1860 census has him listed as living in Corinth, Tishomingo County MS. He married Martha Ann Mask in 1834 Anson County NC. I would appreciate any information you would be able to provide me regarding the Gray line. Martha was the daughter of Silas Mask and Judith Boggan. I may be better if you e-mailed me at wegosborn@yahoo.com and put Gray genealogy in the subject line. Thank you for posting, I don't know how many times I have used the search to find Joshua Mathias Gray but to no avail. I was delighted to find your posting. Thank you. Elaine Gray Osborn
