My husband's father is named Louis Kenneth Siegel and his family was in the Milwaukee area for many years. Louis' father ** Siegel was married to Evelyn **. Louis married Doris Jean Woodward and they lived in Racine until 1972 or so. My husband doesn't know anything about his family and doesn't seem to be interested in finding out. It is now my mission.

Louis also has a brother named Robert, whereabouts unknown.

Other than the three pervious Louis Siegel I still have a couple of missing branches. The family started with two brother that came from Bavaria in 1851. After a short time they settled in the Milwaukee Co & Area. There is a third brother Louis that is still missing. Philipp and Balthazar both married and had children, 14 in all. A couple of these 14 branches are still missing I do have over 500 Siegel family members on file. Is there any other bits of information about your Louis that might help? There does appear to be more than one Siegel Family in the milwaukee area. I look forward to hearing for you.............Terri

My father in law, Louis Kenneth Siegel, was born in Kenosha WI on 06/04/26. His mother's name was Evelyn. I don't have any more information than that. We are going to start asking questions as my 16 yo son would like to know more about his paternal family as my family has already been traced back 15-16 generations. Any info you have on any other Louis Siegel's would be greatly appreciated.

Been awhile - how did you do with the SIEGELs? I have info on a Louis/Ludwig SIEGEL (b. 1800, Bavaria) who emigrated in May 1851 to New York, NY with his wife Katharina and daughters, including Philipine (b.Aug 1834, Bavaria). They remained in NYC.

They may be connected. Let's compare notes.

Been another long while!

Louis Siegel, born c1798 in Bavaria, was my 4th gr-grandfather, through his son (Philippina's brother) Charles L. Siegel. Charles eventually settled in Richmond, Virginia and married Leonora Boschen.

I'd love to compare notes, if you're still interested.

For anyone researching this Milwaukee family, there's a notice in the German newspapers for the Siegel/Schläfer family - and it's not a death notice (?!?) but a German Consulate query. There is also a death notice for Catharine published in these papers and many other Siegel entries.

"Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).

Indexing Milwaukee's German newspapers continuously since 2007 ... it's about German-American culture, not data.
