I don't know if I'm on the right track, but I have a feeling that Chesley may be my relation, although I have never heard of him until today. (Strange as it may sound, I heard of him twice today [Father's Day] once by chance while visiting the Purvis Cemetery and recording his gravestone info, and again when I checked your message posted 1/19/2000! This is a strange hobby we have is it not?) I have been researching my family's history in and around the Malvern AL. area and I need to know if the John Purvis (brother of Chesley re. your posting) had siblings named John II or John Jr.. My 3Gfather is John Purvis who lived in the Malvern area c.1830-1860?? I do not have his wife's name so I can not help you with a tie in with her name. My John Purvis had a son named Edward in 1868, so I don't believe Chesley's brother John is the same, although he may be related. I mean how many John Purvis' could there be in Malvern Al. in 1830 -1860's anyway? I may be very surprised
huh?
Here's what I have, maybe it can help both of us.
---------------------------------------------
[3G]John Purvis Malvern c.1830 -1860??
Wife unknown
--------------------------------------------
(son)[2G] Edward Purvis Malvern bd 5/10/1868
dd 4/18/1948
(wife) Sarrah Elizabeth (Bond)
nname "Bay" Creek Indian
bd 3/4/1876 dd 8/31/1962
(sons)
Sparks, Joseph, and [G]Columbus
(daughters)
Beatrice, Tiny, and Blondel
--------------------------------------------
[G] Columbus Delaware Purvis bd 12/9/1897
dd 12/15/1955
(wife) Ella Jane (Pelham) bd 9/9/1896
dd 12/25/1970
(sons) Alva, Delmus, (F)Damon, Charles (died at 11), and Olan.

Oh and by the way, there is a Purvis Park about 8 miles from the Purvis Cemetery, this park is within 2 miles of my father's (Damon C. Purvis) homestead. There is a yearly reunion held there each fall. Also the Purvis Cemetery is 4 miles south of Malvern on HWY52 out of Dothan, it is closer to Slocomb AL. which is where I was raised, I now live in Abbeville Al..

Thanking you in advanced!

Phillip, My name is Johnny Genearl Purvis and I have read your note and Hattie's with much interest. I too am seeking information on my relatives. My Father was Rev. John Collie Purvis Born 1-11-1911 in Coffee County and died September 1984 in Dothan (Houston County). His parents (My Grandparents) were John Benjamin Purvis born 1-22-1872 and died 1944 Coffee County, Ala. My Grandmother was Winnie Lee Nora Helms Purvis born 1-22-1876 died 1948. My Great Grandparents were Barny Purvis and Pollie Purvis according to information in my parents Family Bible. I have no dates on Barny and Pollie or any information on their parents, siblings, or other children. I was told as a child that there was an American Indian (Creek)in our family lines. I would really appreciate hearing from you. There may be no link but Houston, Geneva, and Coffee Counties are all very close in the SE corner of Ala. My e-mail is jspurvis@always-online.com
Thanks
Johnny

Hi..I am descended from William Green Purvis and Sallie Hallford..my Mom being their daughter. We do have a park but the reunion is the first Sunday in May at lunchtime..and anyone who thinks they mightbe related are welcome to come. We got the land from the government because of our Creek Indian relation, Elizabet, who was of the Poarch tribe.. We also have a book with all kinds of information in it, if I can be of help. Off the top of my head, I cant remember names of anyone going way back..it is late at night, and I should be in bed. If I can help, let me know. Nan P.S. I also seem to remember a Chesley or chester..I will check
