Can anyone tell me whether this facility is open or closed?
Are their records available for research?
Thanks much, Loretta

I think they are closed, for Kaiser Hospital, purchased the buildings a few years ago. First here are some photos of the buildings. http://www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/jmkingsd/jmkingsd.html

Next you might want to check with the Matilda Brown Home, http://home.pacbell.net/lhsmbh/ for Matilda Brown, the woman, was in charge of King's Daughters Home at one time, so maybe they can help.

This facility is long since closed. Purchased by Kaiser and partially demolished for a parking lot. I am researching a family who had a relative there: Gertrude M Huntington who died Aug 12, 1955. If you know how to get ahold of any records for the home, please let me know.

For some reason, I thought it had been a home for unwed mothers. Was it a nursing home? The building was designed by Julia Morgan and is a local landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The 1920 Federal Census calls it "King's Daughters Home for Incurables" and my grGMo's 76 yr-old sister was living there... so, LOL, I don't think it was a Home for Unwed Mothers!!! I, too, would love to find were the records are archived and if they are available...

Not sure if you are aware, there is a large plot of burials at the Mountain View cemetery in Oakland for the Kings Daughters Home. I ran across it recently while walking through.

This building, including the carriage house, is located at 3900 Broadway, Oakland, CA... designed by the famous woman architect Julia Morgan. The old sign still stands on Broadway (near MacArthur) but it is now owned by Kaiser Hospital. It houses some of their psychiatry staff, as far as I know. Inside the front lobby are some of the historic facts about the building itself. I don't know who has the records, but I would start with Kaiser and they could probably tell you.
