Uploading sound and video files to Ancestry trees

Is there a way to upload Video or Sound files to Ancestry web tree. I can only see a recording option.

When I first uploaded a family tree maker 2010 tree to Ancestry it had 2 existing voice files which were uploaded.

I am now maintaining my tree in Ancestry.com and from time to time I backup down to family tree maker.

As far as I know there is no option to upload- only to record...but for audio there may be a workaround-

Someone suggested recording what you want and then doing the following:

1).Get the file you want to put on Ancestry ready to play.
2).Get Soundrecorder in windows ready in a different tab
3).Run that wire from your audio out on your computer to your mike input.
4). Start playing the file and AT THE SAME TIME hot start on soundrecorder.

This should take the file straight from your computer- thru output to your mike which will input to soundrecorder and record it on Ancestry.

Good Luck.

This is an interesting way to record sound, but it requires hours of recording sometimes.
For some reason Ancestry does upload trees from family tree maker to Ancestry.com which already have files in them.

But why don't they allow uploading from the site itself ?
Is there a storage limit ?

This is an issue I wish ACOM would address. I have quite a few interviews I've done in the past 30 years, and I would love to share them with others by uploading them to my tree. Until just recently, I recorded using a portable tape recorder, so I had to upload the tapes to my computer. I made them .wav files, and then converted them to .mp3 so I could email them. Andy's suggestion is a nice one, but I think ACOM just needs to make this a priority and allow for larger files to be uploaded.

I agree ancestry needs to work on this soon. Some of us have been asking for this since 2007.

You can upload video by using a virtual webcam, I've used the ManyCam software. Start the record video media option for the ancestor you would like to add the video to, play/pause the video you would like to upload as the video in your virtual webcamera. Press the record button in the ancestry.com video record box when your video is playing at the appropriate spot as the virtual webcamera feed.
