How are ethnic "regions" defined?

Does anyone know how "regions" in the DNA test are defined? For me, most of my DNA says "British Isles" which is a fairly compact chunk of Earth. But then there's a percentage of DNA pointing to "Eastern Europe" Ancestry defines Eastern Europe as Estonia to the North, Ukraine to the east, Greece to the south and sort of Poland to the west. It's huge! I would have thought Greece and Estonia were fairly different (Mediterranean and Baltic).

Has anyone had a more specific hit in this area, like within 4 modern countries instead of the 20 shown in my map?

Here is the map they use:

Taken from the blog post:

You won't get any hits other than those shown.

Thanks for that post! I guess that explains that.
