Rev.Philip Porter is from the central western portion of SC. His dad was Hugh Porter. Both are Revolutionary War Patriots. Hugh was captured and his son, Philip, volunteered to take his place. The Brits agreed to let Philip to be swapped for his father and he was imprisoned in New Bern, NC. Philip's son, Thomas G. Porter is my husband's line. Thomas migrated to Lumpkin Co., GA. His son, Basil Smith Porter owned property there where Porter Springs was found. This was a mineral springs valued for health benefits. Basil Smith's son, John Thomas moved NE to Fannin Co., GA. His son, John Cleveland moved to Loudon Co., TN when my husband's father was 12. They moved in covered wagons and camped along the way. This branch of the Porters are located in the Loudon, Blount, Sevier, Monroe Counties location today.

HI, I'm resarching this Porter line as well. I'm trying to tie my Portland Oregon, Henry Pharo Porter (b: Jan 1886 Lumpkin Co., Ga.) to this line. I believe your John Cleveland and Henry are brothers based on the cencus info i have reviewed. Does this sound possible? russ

Do you know if any male Porter from this line has ever done a Familytree Y-DNA test? It would be so helpful to know the DNA from this line of Porters since they are such a large group and there are so much paper trails of these Porter.

Thanks.
