Would like some info on the gushue's in Bacon Cove. I know my Grampa lived there, he was born in 1893 and died 1976. He married Sarah Walsh ?

Shelly,

In the 60's I stood outside your grandfather's home in Bacon Cove talking with him during a visit. I have a lot of information about the Gushue family. Just recently I found that a John Gushue from Bacon Cove is buried in the old Irish Cemetary in Harbour Main. He was married to a Rachel.

My g.grandfather Patrick Gushue b. 1880-1, second marriage was to Elizabeth Hawko b 1892-3 (her second marriage as well). Patrick's first marriage to ? gave them the following children Jack (d 1950), Alec, Dan, Mamie (married Stan Ince), Rena (married James Kaliris of Boston) and a baby who died. Elizabeth Hawco had three children from her first marriage to a (Tremblette?) and their names were Mary, Michael and Albert. Together Patrick Gushue and Elizabeth Hawco moved (possible to Nova Scotia first) to Hamilton, Ontario where they had Margaret (married Tom Richards) and Jean (married Fred Gale). I would love any information about Patrick and Elizabeth and their first marriages, or any other info. that you would like to share.

I have three Elizabeth Hawco's listed in 1892,1895 and 1896 with no spouses documented. I do however have their parents and siblings. I am hoping one of these may be your Elizabeth Hawco. Please contact me via email craigjk@telusplanet.net.

Hi Deb
I have several Gushue's in my family files but don't have the place of birth for them. The only one that I have with the place of birth is Raymond Gushue from Bacon Cove married Mary Hickey. Mary died 1998 and is buried in the Anglican Cemetery on Bell Island. They had a son Bernard Gushue but I have no further information on that family but I hope this bit of information is of help to you and other Gushue researchers. Until next time take care.
