I am trying to find the family of James Parker. In 1852 he was married in DeKalb County, TN to Mary Catherine BURTON. She was born in 1836. Her family lived in Liberty Township, DeKalb County. I have no information on James other than when he married and where and where is estate was probated. I do not know where he is buried or when he was born. I am assuming he would be between 14 and 20 in 1850. I have discovered a Parker family in Smith County in the 1850 census that had a James Parker, age 21. Could this be my James. (PARKER, Elizabeth 65, Richard 23, Eliza 25, James 21, NC T, Smith County Residence #752, on page 532). I don't know how close this family would have been to the DeKalb county line. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The parents of James G. Parker are Dempsey Parker and Frances Hargis Parker. I have verified this through many census records. Dempsey was born in 1787 in NC and Frances was born in TN or VA in 1798. James was born 9in 1820 in Sumner Co., and was married twice, first to Elizabeth who was born Dec 14, 1821, died Jan 23, 1864 and is buried in the Barr Cem, north of Gallatin, TN on Shiloh Church rd. Their children included William, Mary, Thomas, J. Harriet, James, Don Carlon, and Sarah. Secondly, he was married to Rhoda Whitson, Dec 12, 1864. Their children included Ellis, Margaret, Oliver and Samuel. In the 1870 Census, Dempsey and Frances are living with James and it states they are his parents. I figure all are buried in the Whitson Cem which was close to James farm, not more than a few 100 yards, and close to the Whitson farm.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any info I don't.

My wife is directly related to Elvis Parker, son of Dempsey and Frances Parher who lived in Smith, Macon, and Sumner Cos. I have done extensive research into this family and thought I was at a dead end till I saw your message. The last info I have on Dempsey and Frances is that they ended up living with James at his farm. I knew he married Rhoda Whitson. In looking through the Sumner Co., TN Cem book, there is listed a Whitson Cem which I think is close to James' farm, and also where I figure Dempsey and Frances to be buried. Do you have any info on this? Do you have any info on Dempsey's family , (siblings and parents)? I will give you any info I have. Looking forward to your reply.
