Are there any records tracing this family to the family of Francois-Xavier Raphael D'Argis= Marie Rebecca Bourassa
(Trois Riviers, Quebec)

I guess we are all related then.

My grandfather was Joseph Alfred D'Argis and my uncles were Leo and Juels.

I've made contact with other D'Argis relatives in Winnepeg recently and we are all trying to find out more.

Let's keep this going!!

Hi Karen! I was researching my maiden name Hodgins when I came across my mother's maiden name D'Argis. Her grandfather is Francois Xavier Raphel brother of Juels, Joseph, Leo, Antoinette, Marie-Louise and Archange D'Argis. My mother is Gloria D'Argis - she would love to hear from you at gdargis@shaw.ca (Winnipeg, Manitoba). If you don't mind, I will give her your e-mail address also!

Hope to hear from you soon!

I guess that means we're cousins!
Cheryl

My great-grandmother was Marie-Elisabeth Dargis born April 12, 1846 St-Etienne/Trois Rivieres her parents were Francois Desrosiers dit Dargis and Mariie-Josephine Lefebvre-Descoteau. I believe my aboriginal roots come from the Dargis' but I am still confirming that............

Marie-Elisabeth Dargis married Francois-Savier Lessard Sept 11, 1865 in St-Etienne de Gres, Maskinonge, Quebec

There are DeCoteau's in my family. I had an aunt Alice DeCoteau and she had a brother Peter. I know they spell their name differently but that could be attributed to Americanizing the name.

Legend was that a D'Argis male was married to a DeCoteau, who possibly came from Indian stock. There may be some merit to that as there is a large tribe of Chippewa in North Dakota, on the Canadian border, with the last name of DeCoteau.

Wow.......this is so interesting.......I expected the Indian connection would be by way of Ojibway or Mohawk.....please contact me, I would love to discuss this directly, if you don't mind.

thanks, suz1@rogers.com

Did you ever confirm your aboriginal roots?
My dad always maintained that his grandmother Rose Delima Héroux was metis but proving it is certainly difficult.
Her maternal grandmother was M. Exupère Brière (1807-1872)daughter of M. Francoise Desrosiers dit Dargis(1765-1846)daughter of Joseph Desrosier-Dargis(Dargy). Joseph was married in Bécancour,QC.
Thank you
