For those researching the Hargus surname, there is lots of info on the net in other places.....there is a Hargis Surname Board, there is a Hargis rootsweb to subscribe to where you will get mailings from anyone researching these names.
My Hargus name goes back 4 generations before the spelling is Hargis, then back a further 6 or 7 generations before it goes to Europe....where I haven't researched yet.
I have seen it Hargiss also.
If anyone needs some links to these other sites, please email me. I have been researching my Hargus line for almost 3 years and do have lots of info to share.

I would like the info. on further research locations that you offered. Thanks for the help. My Hargus roots are:
Fronie Hargus (husband ?), had many children including my grandmother Eva Elizabeth Hargus (B.2-25-1890). They all hailed from Missouri, I believe. Eva married Louis O. Williams, they had 7 children (including my mother), moved to Fresno, CA about 1922, (between child #5 and #6.)
Thanks for any help.

If you could please tell me of the internet links you mention, I'd really appreciate it. My husband's family name is difficult to get started on researching.

Thanks!

Hi Nanci,

Sophronia Belle Pedagrew married David Francis Hargus of Seymour, Mo. Fronie Hargus is her nick and married name.

David is the son of Abraham Lincoln Hargus of Seymour. I have traced back to Abner Hargus in Coffee County TN.

I am just starting on research of my family.
My Hargus line starts the same as yours.
William Asa/Elizabeth Halley is the last match. I would appreciate any info.
Thanks. Have you heard of the Hargis brothers in Tenn that had a feud and one brother changed the spelling to Hargus and moved to MO?

I have heard of the Hargis brothers in Tenn that had a feud and one brother changed the spelling and moved to MO. That is the story, my great aunt has told me over and over... as she heard it from her grandfather.
My grandfather was Lester Dean Hargues, his father was James Alfred Hargues, his father was Johnathan Wesley Hargus, who's father was William Abner Hargus, who's father was John Thorn Hargiss... etc.

Am curious to know who else out there is related to me in this branch... John Weslely had several siblings, George Washington, James Alford, Frances, Henry, Jeremiah Zachariah, Abba, Mary A. and Sarah. Please contact me at shermday@arn.net
Thanks

Becky, this is your cousin Greg Letterman. I saw your name and thought I would see if we can share family search information. In particular, do you have anything on the parents and other forebears of Mary Frances Day nee Nichols or Nicholas who married Benjamin Franklin Day? Her parents Henry and Rebecca (perhaps maiden name Cooksie) are proving hard to track down. Also anything on the following individuals or their forebears: Louisa Mitchell who married Abram Hargus, Nancy Smith who married Abner Hargus, and Elizabeth Kilgore who married Abraham Hargus, Jr.? You can contact me at Gglett@aol.com. Do you have an E-mail address for our cousin Sheila Christopherson since I understand she also has done some work on the family history?
