I am looking for information on my Great Grandfather's family.
His name is David Hettinger, the son of Andrew and Anna Elizabeth (Reichel) Hettinger.
He was born in Dittel, Russia on October 26, 1875. He married Sophie (Weinmeister)Hettinger, also born in Russia, December 22, 1898.
They came by ship to America in 1912 and settled in Laurel, Montana.
He died January 23, 1939.
He had a Brother (name unknown by me) who lived in South America.

Hi Tara
I have Andrew (1830-1885) and Anna Elizabeth (1834-1916)
Hettinger They had 13 children. Your David was their 11th child. The only info I had on him was his birth year. Your information filled in some gaps. If you would like to know the names and dates of siblings let me know. You can contact me at bttycar@aol.com or beloucar1@aol.com

Tara as a side note, I found an interesting piece of information on how the Hettinger's ended up in Russia, I think it was the Ukraine, not too sure. During one of the war years, the Czar of Russia offered free land and farms to anyone wanting to immigrate and work the land. Once they arrived and worked the land, the Czar decided the immigration policy was in error and he reversed his decision. The Hettinger's then immigrated to the US and ended up in the Montana, North Dakota, Iowa areas as grain farmers. I do not have any article that backs this up since most of my Hettinger's came from Alsace and immigrated through LeHavre France.

Hi.
I do have your Great-Grandfather, b. Oct 26 1875 in Donoff, Russia, d. Jan 22, 1939 in Montana, he married Dec 27, 1897 in Dietel, (Oleschna), Russia to Sophia Weinmeister, b April 24 1875 in Dietel, Russia, died June 13 1967 in Dietel, Russia. They had 7 children, 6 girls and 1 son.
Some informarion I have on them so far in their notes

David Hettinger 37, wife Sophie 37, children; Sophie 4, Jacob 3, and Maria Katharina 16. Immigrated to the United States from Bremen, Germany, on Oct 10, 1912, and arriving Baltimore, Maryland aboard the "SS Main" in Oct ?. 1912. They were going on to David's brother Jacob Hettinger in Park City, Montana.

1920 US Federal Census: Household members, Dave Hettinger 44, wife Sofie 44, children: Sofie 13, Marie 6, Lydia 4 and 8 mos., and Elisabeth 3 and 2 mos. They were living in Laurel, Yellowstone, Montana. The family owns their home free of mortgage, at 419 Durland Ave. Dave works as a beet laborer. The couple and daughter Sofie are Russian born and entered the US in 1913 [1912].

I have his ancestry back to Michael Hettinger b. 1716 in Germany d. 1775 in Donhof, Russia.
I became related to the Hettinger line when my grandfather George Bangert (1877-1917) married in 1907 a second time to Amelia "Mollie" Hettinger (1885-1970).

Hope this helps, and if you want more infromation let me know. If you want to go back from your great-gandfather, I can send you a descendant chart on what I have so-far. Betty Carvalho, California bttycar@aol.com
