A distant cousin recently shared the following information with our family. It has helped us to tie in a couple of lines we thought might be related to our Obersters. If you are a descendant of any of these people, I would love to hear from you. (Have photos of Mary/Maria and her children.)

Mathias Oberstar, b. 29 Jan 1832, Verh. 3, Parish Hinje, Krain, Austria (now Slovenia); d. 26 Apr 1910, bur. 28 Apr 1910, Verh.3, Parish Hinje, Krain, Austria, married to Ursula Pelc, b. unknown, in Verh.3, Parish Hinje, Krain, Austria, deceased, Austria. They had the following children:

1) Agnes Oberstar, b. 3 Jan 1853, Verh.3..., christened 3 Jan 1853, Hinje, Rudolfswert, Krain, Austria; no death date or place.
2) Vanlentin Oberstar, b. 9 Feb 1859, Verh.3..., christened 9 Feb 1859, Hinje, Rudolfswert, Krain, Austria; no death date or place.
3) Antonius (Anton) Oberstar (NOTE: all of the parish records were written in Latin, including the first names), b. 19 Jan 1862, Verh.3...; chr. 19 Jan 1862, Hinje, Rudolfswert, Krain, Austria; no death date or place.
4) Maria Elizabeth Oberstar (my 2great-grandmother), b. 30 Dec 1863, Verh.3..., d. 16 Jul 1945, Aspen Pitkin Co., Colorado; bur. July 1945, Red Butte Cemetery, Aspen, CO., married John Joseph (Johann Josef) Zupancis/Zupancic Sr. on 17 Jun 1885 in Hinje, Rudolfswert, Krain, Austria.
5) Johann Oberstar, b. Sep 1868, Verh.3..., chr. Hinje; no death date or place; married Johanna Fabjan on 5 July 1892, Hinje.
6) Florianus (Florian), b. 27 Apr 1872, Verh.3...; chr. 28 Apr 1872, Hinje; no death date or place. He is probably the same Florian Oberster who married a woman named Gertrude (first marriage) and had two children, Joseph and Mary.
7) Ignatius Oberstar, b. 25 July 1876, Verh.3..., chr. 25 July 1876, Hinje; no death date or place.

Your research is wonderful and provided a wealth of information. Florianus Oberster was my great-grandfather. Grandfather was Joseph. Am sure you will be hearing from my cousin, Elizabeth Schnegg, who has been searching for info on Florian for some time. What can I do to help your research?

Hi, Janice! Thank you for writing! I wrote Elizabeth as soon as I found the new Oberstar/Oberster information. We had exchanged e-mails about a year ago, but at that time I didn't know any of Maria Oberstar Zupancic's siblings, so I wasn't sure we were related. I'm so glad we can exchange info and photos this way. I would love to see your own Oberster descendants/genealogy and any photos you might have. If' you'll send your e-mail address to me at: boekworm@tabletoptelephone.com I'll send you a photo or two of Maria and her family if you're interested. I can also send you a copy of my .ged file, though it pretty much contains what I have posted here. I look forward to hearing from you and from Elizabeth!

Hi! I'm certainly glad that I stumbled upon this page.

I think that your Valentin Oberstar could possibly be my great-grandmother's first husband. Her name was Agnes "Neza" Lube. She came to the States in 1903. Her papers at Ellis Island state that she was going to work as a servant for her friend "Val Oberstar" in Pueblo, Colorado.

When Valentin Oberstar's wife died, AgnesLube married him and had several children. Eventually, Valentin himself passed away, and Agnes married my great-grandfather, Anton Kraljic, who had come from Carniola just a few years before.

I don't know much about Valentin Oberstar, but there's a chance it could be the same person. I'd love to hear any more info you may have.

Thank you for responding to my message, and for the information on Valentin's wives. Your Valentin must be my 2g grandmother Maria Oberstar Zupancis' brother Valentin(e) - how many could there have been in Pueblo with the same name? I haven't yet looked for Valentin on the US Censes, but will do so this week now that we have the name of his second wife. (Do you know the name of his first wife?) Unfortunately I don't have any more new information, other than what was posted in my message, but if I find anything more I'll let you know.

Another family member has the information on Valentin's first wife. I don't remember her name off the top of my head, but I know that there are wedding photos and more. I'll see if I can track them down for you.

May I ask your sources on the parish birth records for the Oberstar family? I'm assuming that my great-grandmother Agnes was probably from the same parish, if Valentin specifically sent for her.

A distant relative mailed the information to my aunt, but she couldn't remember the woman's name. I'm hoping she'll see our Oberstar information and contact me directly. My aunt did say that the woman went from parish to parish in Yugoslavia trying to gather all of the existing records on our Zupancic and Oberstar ancestors. Since she was searching for information on both of my lines, I assume the woman must have been a descendant of my 2g grandmother, Maria Oberstar Zupancic, Valentin's sister.
I would love to see any photos on your side of the family. You may e-mail me directly at: boekworm@tabletoptelephone.com
Thanks for sharing. I look forward to hearing from you.

I have just recently started researching an Anton Kraljic when I came upon the same name in your posting. Boy it's hard researching so far away, I'm in Canada. In your Kraljic research would you have come across an Anton Kraljic married to a Frances Rubinic. They were born on Otok (island) Krk, now Croatia, previously Yugoslavia. What sites would you recommend to me for searching this area? Any help would be useful.
You can email me at egan.egan@gmail.com

Thanks
