I am also trying to trace my family's roots on my mother's and father's side. My granmother's maiden name was Velarde. She lives in northern New Mexico. Perhaps there is a connection. Please reply.

You can write me directly at CordovaG@aol.com

I am in early stages of researching the VELARDE surname so I probably don't have a lot to offer other than what I've posted at this point. We can stay connected and perhaps can share as we learn more.

Dear Lisa:

The Chacons and Velardes are related by marriage. Ynez Chacon, daughter of Felipe Chacon and Nicolasa Trujillo, was married to Juan de Jesus Velarde. I do not have a place or marriage date for them but have information on their children.

My name is David Michel Velarde. I have a great aunt who's last name is Pacheco. She lives in the Del Norte/Monte Vista/7 Mile Mesa area of the San Juan Valley in Colorado (SW Corner of Colorado).

Her name is Betty Pacheco. She has several sisters. I'm not sure who her husband was.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for connecting. I always enjoy sharing family history. The info that I have is from much earlier in historical time; however, I'll keep your info and who knows what will develop as we continue the research? The Spanish people have a saying, "todos son primos y primas" and this is certainly proving accurate as I do the family history research. Keep my direct e-mail address for later reference: CordovaG@aol.com

I too am looking for the velarde roots. My father, Joseph A. Velarde, was born in Dawson, NM. (Now a ghost town). I am not sure where my grandfather was born, but he passed away in Grand Junction, CO. Some of my aunts live in Utah. This is all for now. I will check later (hopefully with more info.

I look forward to hearing from you when you can post more particular information about your family. Our fellow researchers can help us better and more when we are able to post event dates along with names (birth/baptism, marriage, death). Setting our ancestors into a timeframe helps in finding records for us. Good hunting.

Thanks to another researcher who pointed me to Fr. Angelico Chavez' research, I found another two ancestral generations. I knew I was back pretty far historically, but I'd not realized how far back.

This is what I now have on my VELARDE family history.
