I saw your posting from 8/1999. I am also
searching for Velasquez family members. Do
you know if you have any family that came
from Wyoming? My grandmother lived in
Wyoming when she was young (1912-1919).

Biographical Notes
Leia wrote this and sent it to Pauline Velasquez Lopez

On a little farm in Trinchera, Colorado, Paul Velasquez was born to Jesus Velasquez and Abundia Padella Velasquez. He was their forth child and second son.

The family was a typical one, living from the fruits of their labor on what they could raise from their land.

When Paul was six years old he had two other little sisters. The families, besides the parents, were in order of their age: Adelina, Emilio, Guadalupe, Paul, Elvira, and Maria Lucia. A memorable event in PaulÂ’s life was when on a stormy day, they placed him on a horse as he was to small to get on it himself, and go fetch his Aunt Filiana who was a midwife. His accomplished his mission and that night he had his new little sister Lucia.

Joy turned to sadness soon because when he was six years old his father passed away.

Raising this large family was hard on the little mother and when Paul was ten years old, his mother was also laid to rest.

Adelina married soon and Emilio too. Guadalupe also married. The other two girls went to live with aunts and uncles. Paul lived with an uncle and his first job was herding sheep for him. He had to pay with his work for the funeral expenses. He went to school some times and finished the forth grade.

When he had grown to manhood he worked as a ranch hand for a very wealthy lady who had several cowboys and a colored man who was the cook. They were all fond of Paul.

On June 25, 1908 he married Maria Martinez. Three children were born to them: Lekia, Jodie, and Joseph.

Paul then worked in a saloon and soon became the owner of it. He bought a ranch in Emery Gap and later sold everything and moved his family to Trinidad. After five years they moved to Walsenburg. There the children married.

After several years he married Margaret Montaga and Pauline was born.

In the meantime his sisters Adelina, Maria, Guadalupe, and his brother Emilio and Elvira passed away. Paul attended the funerals of each one. These were his greatest sorrows.

He lived in Pagosa Springs for a few years where he owned a billiard parlor. When he was sixty-four he retired and lived in Walsenburg.

On September 3, 1961 he was injured in an auto accident from which he never recovered and he went to his eternal rest on November 17, 1961.

His greatest accomplishment was his giving himself to God during his last days by receiving the sacraments daily through GodÂ’s grace.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. So far I have found out that Dad's father was Jose Diego Velasquez married to Sarita Vigil. His father's name was Juan Velasquez married to Juliana or Manuala. Not sure of his wife's name. They were from Weston, Colorado.
