Boarding School

Hello All,
I have an ancestor who was the Auditor General for the Madras Army. He sent his son back to England (as many did) to be educated. I have him travelling to England aged 8 and returning to India aged 24. The timeframe is 1830 to 1860.

My question is this - Were there any schools in England which specialised in teaching the sons of Officers in the EIC? And if so, does anyone know the names?

Any help would be most appreciated. A reply to this email would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Angelo,

Some good links and good help there.

The ancestor in question was 'a cad and a bounder', so I am sure he must have been something of a tear-away as child. I am hoping that his exploits were important enough to be recorded by his school.

Thanks again
