Does anyone know how to find out which orphanages there were in NM around 1880-1900? Or find records? I'm not having any luck. Thanks!

I'm trying to find some information too but am not having any luck. Hopefully there are some records that we may be able to stumble upon at some point. Good luck to you.

Surnames: Starkovich or Starcevic
I'm researching my family with surname Starkovich/Starcevic. My father and possibly his brothers were in the St. Anthony's Home for Boys approximately 1914 when their mother in Gallup died. The orphanage in Albuquerque has been torn down and I'm having a hard time finding any records. I believe they were there 2 years until my grandfather remarried and took them back. My dad went to some reunions in his later years but I can't find anyone else to talk to. I have a photo and the home was run by Catholic church.

I am looking for records from there too....altho not orphans my Dad & his brother were sent there from Magdalena,NM to help the family because there were 3 other children at home & their father was too ill to work. I think that this was between 1923-1925 and they may have been there for maybe a year. The school's time there was from 1913-1971 ( the building is still there & was sold to the Job Corp ). I do not know where the records ended up & would like to find out if they exist. Good luck & post if you ever find them. The order of nuns who came from Germany to Indiana to Colorado Springs to Albq. have had good fortune in that their sister was beatified last year. If your father was their in 1914...he was one of the early ones...would love to see the photo you have or is it the one that is on the net ? Good Luck. Mary E. Curtis

My dad used to attend reunions in Albuquerque. Tim Keleher I believe was the one who kind of organized them. He is dead now, but I think his son is an attorney. I thought the orphanage was torn down years ago because my dad was trying to get the cornerstone but was unsuccessful. I think I may have posted a photo of it on my tree site "Starkovich/Starcevic/Bigley" family tree. If you email me directly at sunrisesally237@gmail.com I will try to get a copy to you. Thanks, Sally (Starkovich) Gonzalez
