About 1935 I was in an Ophans home. I was 6 or 7. Been scearch the net for this place. I remember we drove many long hours from Muscogee, Ok . It was a 7-day adventist home. It was in the middle of nowhere. A big home off the main road and we approched the back of this home. The front faced a stream . It was 2-story and the girls unit. The boys unit we couldn't see but walked there and cleaned their cabin once a week. Inever remember seeing the boys.Have you ever heard of suce a place? Thanks for any informattion you can give. Please email me z1mom@earthlink.net

If you scroll up a few inches, you'll see a response I posted a few minutes ago concerning the 1933 census of dependent children. That census has an entry for Ozark Mountain School, in Hulbert (in Cherokee county, OK). It was described as a private institution for 19 dependent white children, age 4--18. There was no mention of the Seventh Day Adventists.

Maybe if you feed some of that infomation into a search engine (such as Google.com) you'll find something on the Internet.

The home was run by JW and Margaret Barnhurst who were Seventh Day Adventists. It opened in 1920 and closed in 1937. My ex-husband's great-grandfather bought the property in 1939. The dorm is gone, the only remnants of it are the stairs that face the creek. The sign over the front gate is now attached to the barn. Information on the school and home can be found in the Adventist, Heritage, Volume 14, Number 2. Here is the link to the publication: http://archives.llu.edu/cdm/compoundobject/collection/advher...
