Hi Stephen,

My maiden name is Lisa Vanek and I grew up in the Lewistown area, so we are definitely related. Who are your parents? My father is Frank Vanek, who lives in Moore, MT, son of Wencil and Marie Vanek. I knew my great grandmother, Mary Maruska, when I was a small child and have a few memories of her. I was trying to find additional information on the Maruska side of the family, but am not having much luck. Would love to exchange knowledge with you.

We just returned from Nejepin. There are still 58 people in the village including some of my cousins.

I have pictures of the village. My Great-grandfather Joseph Hospodka was the wagon wheel maker for the the village.

Lisa. I metm you dad when my family went to stay with you Grandparents in about 1963. Wencil was my Grandfather younger brother. My Grandfather was Frank W. Vanek. The story that I was always told was that my Grandpa was born he was named Frank Wencil Vanek and when your Grandpa was born they named him Wencil and changed My Grandpa's to Frank W. I don't know for sure if that is true or not.
We always stayed at Wencil and Maries when we did go there to visit and in fact we stayed there in August 2010 when we were there for the reunion. The Gremaux reunion was on Saturday and the Vanek's on Sunday. My Grandmother was Dorothy Gremaux and her brother was Foxy Gremaux. I have a copy of a sort of history that Marie wrote about her family and I will be glad to share it with you if you want. My e-mail is svanek@air-pipe.com By the way your dad is my second cousin

I have looked on the few maps available for the town of Nejepin and have never been able to find it. Can you tell me where it is?
My family name is Vanek, and according to family letters he was a shoemaker. My great, great, great grandmothers maiden name was Sramek. We are related by marriage to the Ciha's, and the Haruska's whom we know also came from around the same area. Is it possible that you know of any of these families?
I would very much like to hear from you, my e-mail is svanek@air-pipe.com. Thanks, Steve Vanek

Sorry I haven't checked this since June. We had some family stuff to deal with in Mt. this summer. I live about 2 hours south of Spokane. It would be great to talk to you about some of this after the new year if you have some time.
