Do you have a copy of the marriage record which says Elizabeth Gibbs is mother of Sarah Slater? The record I have does not give that information.

13 Mar 1828, Kanawha: Cornelius Edens m Sarah Slater.
m by Nathaniel W. Calhoun, V.D.M.

Elizabeth Gibbs was the mother of Dorothy Wills/Wells Davis who married Jesse Edens, 1802, Bedford Co., VA.

In about 30 years of research, I have not proven the parents of any of the Kanawha Co. Slaters. My line is through Sarah Slater & Cornelius Edens.

I am so sorry.

Unless you and I have a connection to the Slater family in Southern Indiana in which I have researched with Death Records, Census Tracks, Birth Records, Military Records back to 1806, I am not related to any Sarah Slater from West Virginia. I have 47 Slater families of which there were 3 Sarah Slaters. But they all died in Gibson County Indiana in the late 1800s. I have no records of Cornelius Edens as being married to a Sarah Slater from my Slater Family Tree. John Slater, is the orgianal Slater of my family born in England 1645 that I have verified.

Good luck on your quest. If I can assist you let me know.

I also have Slater ancestors from WV/VA that eventually moved on to Ohio then to Indiana. I have Nelson Slater, b. 1818 Ashland, OH, d. 1887 LaGrange, IN; his father was James N. Slater b. 1786 in Berkeley, WV/VA, d. 1853 Jeromeville, OH; and his father was James W. Slater born about 1745 in VA. Any of these fit into your Slater's?
