Granville township is one of the original townships that make up Milwaukee County. Some of the original _townships_ (Lake, Milwaukee, and Granville) gradually shrunk, then disappeared as the boundaries of the _City_ of Milwaukee spread out and absorbed them. Other townships (Franklin, Greenfield) incorporated themselves as cities somewhat preserving their original township boundaries which you can still see in some maps.
