Hi,

I am the son of Herbert Donald Cannady from Baltimore, Maryland. My father died when I was only five years old. I did not have an opportunity to meet his side of the family, the Cannady's. I am attempting to locate relatives (Cannady Family Members). My grandmother's name is Frances Cannady. I do not know my grandfather's name. If you think you have some insight into my inquiry, please respond at Ecann57490@aol.com. If I do not hear from you, I will assume that you have cannot help. Please note the spelling of my last name, Cannady.

Hello Eric:

I came across your post on ancestry.com dated December 2000. The names you mentioned are very familiar to research I have started to do on behalf of my father. The information he gave me is that his family name is Cannady, although he was adopted grew up with last name Jones. My fathers biological mothers name is Francis (maiden Bryant) and her husband was Herbert Cannady. My paternal grandmother Francis, raised her family in the Baltimore area, which I visited a couple times as a child. I am curious if you had any luck in finding any further information regarding the Cannady family.

Folks, I was reading your post and was curious to know if your Cannady relatives were originaly from NC. If so, I may can help. You see my maiden name was Cannady (note spelling). I have written a book titled Cannady and Related Families that begins with Patrick Cannady b. about 1660s from Perquimans County, NC. I have traced my families roots from this Patrick to present day. Now, Patrick was a well used family name so sorting through all of them was a learning experience. Several generations after this Patrick there was another Patrick that lived in NC and he had a son named Hardy Cannady that moved to Gibson Co. Tn. along with several of his siblings in the 1825-30 time frame. My relatives are descendents of Hardy's nephew Hardy Cannady of Sampson Co., NC. If any of these names ring a note, then we must talk. LOL

Constance, I checked my database but could not locate a Hubert Cannady however, that doesn't mean we aren't related. This just means I am not showing your direct line yet. It could be, I have info on your great grandparents or great great grandparents but just not your grandparents.

What I need from you is the earliest person in your Cannady line that you have a birth and death date on, their complete given name and where they were born. Then we will see if we can make the connection.

Also, in doing research look for the different spellings of Cannady. Over the years the following has been found: Canady, Cannady, Kennada, Cannaday, Kanada, Canada, Kinada, Kennedy and etc.

I have a Herbert Cannady b. 8-7-1929 but he was born and died in NC. He was not married to a Frances. Will need your family memebers full name, birth, death dates, place born and died before being able to trace your family.

Could it be that your Herbert had another first name? Such as James Herbert? Could Herbert be his middle name and the name he went by? Could Frances be his first or second wife? These questions will need to be researched.
