Funeral services for J. Thomas Burris, Sr., 66 of 309 Elm, Mason City, was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the United Methodist Church of Mason City. Rev. John Atkins, Rev. Mark Kim and Rev. Robert Paddack officiated. Interment was in Mason City Cemetery. Friends called at the Cain Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday. Mr. Burris died at his home at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 1980. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. A retired farmer, Mr. Burris also was a member of the Optimist Club and the Over 55 Club at Mason City. He was born November 14, 1913, at Milltown, Kentucky, a son of Elic and Emma Beard Burris. He married Ruby Estes, July 29, 1932, at Greensburg, Kentucky. She survives. In addition his wife, he is survived by his stepmother, Dezie Burris of Greensburg; two sons, Joe Thomas, Jr. of Mason City and William of Lincoln; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Nannen of Green Valley; and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Roy, Rue and Eunie, all of Greensburg, and A.Z of Columbia, Kentucky; two half-brothers, Bill of Moorhead, Kentucky, and Roland of Greensburg; three half-sisters, Mary Burris and Mrs. Shirley Smith, both of Greensburg, and Mrs. Joyce Delihay of Clarkesville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
