I am from El Arenal, Durango. My grandfather is Juan Manuel Burciaga and my grandmother is Irene Rios. I now live in Georgia, along with most of my grandfather's children. Burciaga is not a very common last name here. Most of us who share the surname are related. i would like to know more about my family origions as well as meeting any relatives. My grandfather's side of the family is very distinct. He has blue eyes and still measures over 6 ft tall at his age. Most of his siblings have blue or green eyes and light skin. Their features intrigue me because I do not know our origin, it is obvious that we are not 100 % indigenous.

Hello,
I am glad to tell you that I know the people you mention, Irene and Juan Manuel. My name is Ben Burciaga and I am from el Arenal. I went to school with one of your uncles, David. All I can tell you about our last name is that it came from Spain as most of the last names in Mexico. I had a chance to visit Georgia last Thanksgiving and I know David lives there. I will get more information when you reply to my message.
Thanks

Hi, my name is Jesus Manuel Burciaga (same as my father) and his father is Jose Natividad Burciaga from Galiana, Durango. I know my grandfather had MANY children in Durango and wonder if there is anyone out there. I know I have a huge family - most have moved to Chicago. I am from there, too.
Anyone know these names?

FYI:
Burciaga is from Spain and in Spain there are 3 main ethnic groups. One of which is Basque who are a mix of Spanish and French. For many years they have been considered separatists, because they want their own independent nation in the northeast section of Spain. They have been terrorists for generations in this attempt. They were blamed for the train bomb in Madrid that killed many several years ago, but they denied it.
