I was loaned a book about the Stambaughs in Pennsylvania and only a one line mention about Stambaughs in Johnson Co. Am I related to Stambaughs in Pa.?

The book is "Stambaugh 1686-1986" by Helen Stambaugh. The "one-line reference" is:

The story handed down my aunt tells is our ancestor was from Pa. where he fled to Ky in 1790 to get out marrying a girl he did not want!

Who are some of your other family members?

I noted that you have a MINNIE A. CAUDILL Married to a MANFORD P. STAMBAUGH. My great aunt was named MINNIE STAMBAUGH and was born a CAUDILL in Johnson Co. This means that she married a STAMBAUGH, but we don't have his name. Her father was SAMUEL CAUDILL b. Feb 17, 1843 in Johnson Co. He was married to MARGARET PICKLESIMON or PICKLESIMER (My grandmother pronounced it the first way, but I think it might be the second instead) b. Aug 27, 1850 in Johnson Co. Their descendants included the following: ADA, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, MILLARD FILLMORE, WINFIELD SCOTT, MINNIE, MARTHA, MARY BELLE (my grandmother), WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT, and GRACE. They moved to Merriam, KS abt 1898.

I would love to find out info on Aunt Minnie's side of the family. We should be able to determine a connection from the childrens' names.

Also, my search has ended with Samuel; if I could locate any more info on him, that would also be great.

I don't know how well you remember me, but I'm your Aunt Mildred's daughter. We have all of Papaw's geneology back to Felix Stambach, born 11/22/1643 - died 11/3/1729 in Alsace, France. Yes, they did come to PA, and then to Johnson Co, KY.

Mom and I have been working on this for several years -- we even went to York, PA to look at the records. I'm curious, though, which of our aunts told the story you mentioned? I haven't heard it!

Sarah Jane Stambaugh born abt 1822 died Aug. 13, 1874 in Johnson Co., Ky married Samuel Murray on November 14, 1837 in Morgan Co., Ky. She was the daughter of Samuel Stambaugh and Charlotte Rogers. Samuel was the son of Samuel Murray and Exer??.
