looks like we have a match on a name or two. I have the history of the Gunnett, Neff and Crowe family on CD. The crowes covered are from Ellwood City, Pa. and Frostburg, Md.
The information was placed in book form by Samuel Gunnett Neff. I do mean Book! I have about 700 plus pages of material.

If I'm not mistaken, Samuel Gunnett Neff wrote a book about Henrietta Stump's sons and their service in the civil war. I have the title of it around here someplace.

Is there an Annie Crowe born about 1843 in Templederry (near Thurles Co.) Tipperary, Ireland. She married a Daniel Maher in PA about 1860-1861 and had a daughter Mary Catherine Maher.

To be honest there is a ton of material to check, I did find a Mrs. Annie Crowe listed as "the reporter of the death" of John Wesley Crow. John was born 04.01.1839. She signed this on 09.23.1903. It was signed in Cincinnati. Father was Frederick Crowe and mother was Herrietta Staub or Staup? On another page is a Annie Crow with the maiden name of Annie Prose?
Looks like these folks come from the Frostburg area. Sorry I couldn't be of much help, there are over 700 pages of material and it is somewhat hard to read.

Hi Ken,

Yes I recognize some of the names you are finding on your CD's as being part of Frederick and Henrietta (Staup) Crow's family. I had two wives for John Wesley, the first was Sarah Whitehead and the second Abby Provst who died in Ohio, not Annie. I got this info from a member of Fredrick's brother George Maxwell Crow's line. I'm not sure which is correct but he sent me a large family file that had quotes from Samuel Gunnet Neff's book, I guess he has it too. This gentleman had the names Gunnet and Fresh in his files. Do you want to get intouch with him? If so I'll ask him if I can give you his e-mail address.

Which Crowe's were living in PA? I've just had our DNA tested and I'm trying to track my Crowe's to the areas that matched my family.

If this person is named Dick, then I have already made contact. I have both Samuel Gunnett Neff books on CD, this holds information on the Gunnett, Neff and Crowe families.

As far as I can tell, the Pa. Crowes were the result of the marriage between George Maxwell and Agnes Smith Crow. My great Uncle(?) Oscar R. (Dewey) Crow was the grandson of Frederick K. Crow and Henritta Stump. Dewey served with the 7th. Calvary in 1918 during the incident with Poncho Villa.
The information didn't photocopy the greatest, it is best to view it as a text file. There are a few hundred pages. It kind of jumps around, it would take me months to figure out a proper answer for you.

According to the document in the book. John H.? Crow was married to Sarah Whitehead. She died in Sept. 1870, he was married again to Annie Crow maiden name Pross? On Feb? 19, 1871. The document is from the Military, Bureau of Pensions, his children are listed at the bottom. The information is in his handwriting and I'm looking at a photocopy. If I had more time and better eyes I might be able to read his handwriting a wee bit better.

On another page, his second wife is no longer Annie but now Anna Pross. The oldest in the crow line is Thomas Humberson born 1730. His daughter Mary married William Crow in 1793? One of their kids was Frederick K. Crowe born 1808. BTW.... Agnes W. Smith was Native American. Shortly after that, the Gunnett gene pool joins in.

Hi Ken,

Yes that person is Dick I was talking about.

This book you have on CD is it from a hand written account? what year was it done? I was wondering if it mentions who Frederick,s parents and siblings were. There has been some questioning if my ggg grandfather Jacob Crow was really a brother of Frederick and if William Crow was the father of Jacob and Frederick. There was one census record that Frederick had his mother born in Germany. Mary Humbertson was not from Germany and was the wife of William Crow.

I did have the name Anne Prost but changed it to Abby for some reason. Must have gotten it from someone and didn't put a reference in my file.
