Lucy,
My g-grandfather was Nicholas von Minden b.1823 Hollen north of Bremervoerde, Hannover, son of Nikolas b.1784, son of Nikolas b.1730, son of Nikolas b.1697 Hamelwo:rden, Hannover. G-grandfather Nicholas had only a half brother from his mother, no other siblings. Do any of these Nicholas/Nikolas von Mindens fit in your family?

Just saw your message. I am doing research on the Doerr family of the Round Top area. One of my husband's ancestors married an Emilia(e) Brau, the daughter of John Christian & Caroline(Zwerneman) Brau. She was one of nine children in the Brau family. Would like to know more about the Doerr-Brau family. Thanks!

My gg aunt Annie Cassens married Gus Zwenerman in Waldeck in 1891 and divorced! What a scandal for back then! Would like to know if you know any more about this.

Sorry, I don't have any information as to why they divorced. I haven't found any information that either one ever remarried, but that doesn't mean they didn't. On the 1920 census she was living with her parents. That's all I have. If you find anything, please let me know, because the Zwernemanns are one of my main lines and I am definitely interested.

Hi Lucy. I'll reply if I find out they had any children, but I don't think that they did. Good luck in your searches!

Gruessen aus Deutschland! You sound like you might be related to me. My father was Monroe Brau, son of Conrad Brau and Otillie Brau, geb. Etzel. My father's oldest brother, Arno Brau, was married to Sophie geb. Knutzen. My grandparents and my father and all of his brothers and sisters were all born in Round Top, Texas. My father's paternal grandfather was Johann Christian Brau from Wolfhagen, Hesse-Nassau Province, Preussen. My father's other 3 grandparents (grandfather Philip Etzel, Christina Etzel geb Zwernemann and Carolina Brau geb. Zwernemann) were from Kassel in Nord Hessen. The two grandmothers were sisters. I have visited both Wolfhagen, which is a lovely little town full of Fachwerk houses near Kassel, and Kassel. I remember my father talking about the von Mindens, but I don't think we are related to them. They owned the general store in Round Top. My father was the third from the youngest in his generation and had 5 brothers and 4 sisters, all of whom are deceased now.

Are you Linda? You are my father's cousin - he was Kellie Brau, Arno's son. I have been doing a lot of work in the family trees -Brau, Etzel and Zwernemann. Do you ever go to the Etzel reunion?

Hi,Lucy, yes, I'm Linda. I don't remember if I've met you or not. Didn't your family live in San Antonio? Is your father still living? The last time I saw any of my Brau relatives was in May, 1995 when I visited Vera and Vastine and saw Karen and her 2 children. This was shortly before Vera had to put Vastine in the nursing home and then he died not long after that. I think it was just a few months after that Vera was found dead in her chair by Karen. Vera said at the time that Vernon and Billie had moved to Uncle Arno's and Aunt Sophie's farm and built a new house. Do they still live there?

What happened to Karen and her family? Her husband had been very ill for some time the last time I saw her in 1995. I sent her something after Vera died, but it came back. Does she still live in Seguin?

I haven't lived in the US in almost 15 years so the last time I went to the Etzel reunion was 30 years ago. I have lived in Mexico for a total of 10 years, Germany for a little over 3 years and I just spent the last year in Turkey. Now I am back in Germany in east Germany on the German-Polish border. I have been retired on disability for many years which is how I can move around like I want.

I have been married 3 times, widowed twice and have no children, but I have 5 cats. Marriages:

John Christian Baum, originally from Washington, DC
married 1969, divorced 1971

Richard John Otto Lewin, originally from Glens Falls, NY
married April, 1973; he died suddenly in June, 1993

Helmut Lehnert, originally from Essingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany
married December, 1996, he died suddenly 30 May 2000

As you know, my father's and Uncle Arno's grandmothers were 2 sisters named Zwernemann. I had a book on WWII fighter aces and there was a young Luftwaffe ace named Joseph Zwernemann. I can't say for sure if he was related to us, but the name is not common here. If you want, I can contact the Bundeswehr historical section to see if they know where he was from. He was killed late in the war and was rather young at the time.

Aunt Sophie must have been related to the von Mindens because I don't remember my father ever saying anything about us being related.

One of my cousins on my mother's side was planning to go to the Jungermann-Giese reunion in Round Top. I hadn't realized Uncle Benno had connections to Round Top. Have you ever heard of these families?

There is someone else on this forum looking for information on the family, DG Hodge. I think it might be one of cousin Norma's children, but I'm not sure. Do you know this person?

Let me know how your project's turning out. You can send me a private e-mail: lindalehnert@hotmail.com

Linda
