Looking for anyone with Schloss relatives from Kleinsteinach, Bavaria, Germany. My first known Schloss ancestor is Abraham David Schloss born abt. 1790 who married Mirjam Straus and had at least two children: Emanuel and Seligmann who came and raised large families in Michigan. Thanks for your help.

Are you related to Rabbi Isaac Schloss of Kleinsteinach who operates circumcisions in association with the Mohel Hirsch Katz-Neumann of Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke ?

Not that I am aware of..it was my triple great grandfather who was born in Kleinsteinach so I do not have that much on the Schloss family or descendants.

I have been doing genealogy on our family (Schloss/Klein/Jandorf/Feldstein). My great, great, great grandfather, Aaron Schloss was born in Kleinsteinach in 1780. Aaron had a brother Abraham and I have yet to verify if Abraham is the brother of Aaron. Aaron left Germany with his wife Rose, and two sons Hiam Baer and Lazarus and went to Philadelphia around 1843.

My wife and I are going to Kleinsteinach on June 8, 2012 and will be working with a genealogist in Kleinsteinach. We will return about June 20 and if there is some definitive link, I will happily contact you.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for posting and how exciting that you are going to do research in Kleinsteinach! I so wish I could get over there to see where my ancestors were from and try to find out more about the Schloss family. I would be surprised if there was not a connection between our families and will give some additional info that I have in case you come across anything. Thanks for your offer to let me know if there is a link.

My GGG Grandfather is Seligman Schloss born April 30, 1830 in Kleinsteinach. He came to America in April of 1853 and ended up in Detroit. He had one brother named Emanuel Schloss born Feb 1823 in Kleinsteinach who may have emigrated earlier than he.

Their father's name was Abraham Schloss (possibly Abraham David Schloss) born approx. 1790 in Kleinsteinach. Some info points to the mother being Mirjam (or Myriam) Straus though I have other info that states that her maiden name is Marion.

That is about all that I have but if run across anything and are willing to share, I would be very grateful and, even if not, I would love to hear about your trip and see any photos you would be willing to share.

Thanks again for getting in touch and have a safe and wonderful trip!

My email address that I use for family tree stuff is holmesdlgenealogy@gmail.com if you want to contact me directly and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help aid you in your search.

best regards,

David

There must have been a lot of Schlosses in Kleinsteinach. I have an ancestor, Hirsch Steinberg (1802-1867) of Schonungen, buried in the Jewish cemetery of Kleinsteinach, who had two wives, each named Babette Schloss. The first Babette (1812-1847) was the daughter of Lazarus Mendel Schloss (1769-1826), born in Untereisenheim, and Hannah Abrahams (1778-1833). The second Babette (1821-1887) (my ancestress) was the daughter of Samuel and Sara Schloss. The second Babette had a brother named Louis who co-founded the Alaska Commercial Company in 1867. I suppose that all of these are unlikely to be directly related to you, if your Schloss ancestors emigrated to Michigan in the mid 1800's. I am in touch with an archivist in nearby Bad Kissingen who knows the history of Jewish families in the area very well. She may be able to help you.
