My grandmother gave me a medal that says: "Ministere Du Commerce Et De L'Industrie", as well as the date, 1900. I have seen a couple of similar medals on the internet, but I can't find anything that describes it's orgin. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Hi:

This site is in French
http://www.france-phaleristique.com/comindus.htm
Briefly: there are 4 types of medals: bronze, silver, vermeil (red?), and gold; these medals were given to employes for their faithful service in the establishment, in this case, the Department of Commerce & Industry.

Cordially,

Lucie
