trying to find where my name comes from

I have for years wondered what the origin and location of my last name Duncliffe was. The story I was told as a child was that my great great grandfather jumped off/escaped from an English ship into Canada. Apparently he was put on it by a press gang. Every Duncliffe that I know of is related to me which is around 40 people and most live in Ontario Canada. I read a message off of this site by Lyn Doncliff and found it very fascinating. If anyone can shed any light on this even if to say there are other Duncliffe's or descendents thereof I'd love to hear from them.
Owen Duncliffe

Hi Owen I have a large family tree Duncliffe and all originate from Bandon Cork Ireland. My mother was a Duncliffe and her grandfather was born in Bandon in Cork and when he moved to Cork City he changed the spelling of his name from Donnacliffe to Duncliffe.
My name is Elaine O'Toole and I have a large family tree with my Heritage and I am going to also upload this to Ancestry.

Regards
Elaine
