Can anyone tell me what was the legal age of consent to marry without parental permission in KY around 1830's? Still searching for parents of George BROWN married to Juliet/Julia Ann LUSH in Hardin County 1836. Thanks.

Don't know absolutely, but most of my relatives, seemed to have consent if they were under 21 years old. Pretty sure that was the rule of the time.

I am not sure when the legal age was established into law. But, section 1155 of the KY statutes were revised in 1906 to raise the legal age from 12 (twelve!) to 16. The legal age is still 16. I am looking at my great grandmother's marriage register 11 Dec 1905, and her mother signed consent for her to marry. So now I know that she really did have a child at 11 - 12 years old! I was sure it was a mistake until now.
