Would like maiden name of Emma M I Ladwig, husband Herman F Wilhelm Ladwig of Hamburg, Germany born 1854. Both were said to have immigrated to New York in 1881. Would like to confirm Emma's immigration date since she is not listed on ship manifest with Herman. Children were born in Milwaukee Ward 17, Wisconsin beginning Nov 1881, etc. Looks like she made a visit to Germany in 1902 by herself. Also would like marriage date / place. Thanks for your help.

Many thanks for this information on the Ladwig family. May I ask where you found this information since it is not available on ancestry.com?

The short answer is that I located the vitals in the Milwaukee County Register of Deeds office today. The Ladwig records were hand copied by me from the original record on file at this office.

The long answer is that I had an appointment there this a.m. and printed out your Ladwig query just before leaving the house. Took a peek at the family on Ancestry so realized they resided in the Bay View area of the city. That location separated them from others with the same name. Had a little extra time so searched for items related to this family. Probably is much more, but my time allotment ran out.

Ancestry.com is wonderful for finding census and some indexes. In this case, I looked at many more records(birth and marriage) that were indexed as Ladwig with first names that were the same as this family but turned out to be a different family.

Emma's maiden name is included in the multiple death notices that the family published in local German newspapers. There are about 140 Ladwig entries found in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
