Olof Nilsson Ruden emigrated to US between 1880 and 1885. He married Oline Negaard in 1885. They had 5 children: Christine (Helena), Nellie, Paul (my grandfather), Lillie and Alvira (died at age one). In the 1900 Minnesota Census, they lived at Atwater Village in Kandiyohi County. It shows they had 2 people living with them: Arnold H. Tolnsing (or Tolvsing?) born in Minnesota Sept 1878 (relationship is "L"), and Minnie Honibrink (?) born in Minn June 1879 (relationship is "Se"). I know they also lived in Kerkoven, Litchfield, and Grove City. He ran a general mercantile business. In 1892, he and several others incorporated the Kerkoven Roller Mill Company. I have write-ups from the Kerkoven Standard from the 1890's which have his name spelled "Ole N. Rudin". In 1907 Ole and Paul came to Canada to buy land - and in 1911 they received homestead papers. On these papers Ole signed his name "Ole N. Ruden" and Paul signed his "Paul Howard Rudeen" although his birth certificate shows Paul Howard Ruden. Thanks for any info.

Find more information.

Hi,

You might be able to get away with less information with an uncommon name. I think this name might be uncommon but I'm not sure.

Otherwise, you need the immigration year, not a range of years. The immigration year is available in the U.S. censuses for 1900-1910, and 1920.

Where did he live in the United States? A destination is given on the CD.

Do you have more names? The Nilsson is probably his patronymic name and I suppose that he has another name or two. Still, the surname seems unusual to me and maybe you will be lucky.

If someone finds him on the CD, you will get (hopefully) a parish name and then you will be able to research your ancestors through the records.

Good luck!

Judy

My father's grandfather Olof Nilsson Rudén was born in Sweden December 21, 1855. He emigrated to the US sometime between 1881 and 1885. I am doing research on the family and have no info from Sweden. I am looking for the names of his parents and siblings, and parish/hometown etc. Thanks

You were very kind to look this up.

If it's not too difficult, could you look up
Erick Roden, born 1859, and
his wife Anna, born 1862?

They and their son Carl/Karl emigrated to the U.S. in 1903.

Thank you very much.

Ingrid Marta Ersdotter (daughter of Erik; not THIS Erik, of course) is listed as "mor" = mother. She is the mother of Erik, most likely. Relationships are to the head of the household.
