I am interested in information about ELIAB BUNNEL who married JANE ROBERTSON in 1812 in Washington, DC. He appears on the 1820 and 1830 census of District of Columbia. Who were his children, etc? Can anyone help?

Nancy, are you Jack and Helen's Nancy of San Jose? My name is Sue(Bunnell)Stringham. I received a copy of my family history and according to it Eliab Bunnell and Jane Robertson had a son named William Henry Bunnell ( I think his birthday would have been around 1813. He is my great- great grandfather. On this family history, he is their only child. Of course if you're Jack and Helen's Nancy, you would probably already have this info.

Sue, my ancestor was Abner Eliab Bunnell who was the son of William Henry Bunnell and Permelia (Amery) Bunnell. My grandfather was Abraham Levirt Bunnell and my father is Charles P. Bunnell. I know I have cousins in the San Jose area, but have not been in contact with many of them. How did you get a copy of your ancestry? We are looking for "proof" on Eliab being William Henry's father. Thanks for replying!!!! :-)

Nancy, I recently had the Bunnell Family history sent to me by my aunt, who got it from my second cousin. The history begins with Thomas Bunnell of Normandy France and his wife Jacque Marie Bygote beginning about 1540. According to this information sent to me, Abner Eliab Bunnell was my great grandfather's brother. My great grandfather was Roland Cassius Thaddeus Obediah Bunnell born in 1851. His parents were William Henry Bunnell and Permilia Cooksey Amery born around 1814. Since I just received this information, I don't know how my second cousin got it. I'm trying to contact him to get more information and will let you know if he has proof of William being Abner's and Roland's Father. I was born and raised in San Jose. Roland had a son named Albert Earnest Bunnell. He was my grandfather. He moved the majority of his family (13 kids) from Oklahoma to San Jose, California in 1942. There are a lot of Bunnell's in San Jose and the Monterey area as you can imagine with 13 kids who all managed to stay in the San Jose area. My grandmother Rettie Bunnell (Albert Earnest's wife) is still alive. She is 92 years old now. She was 21 years younger than my grandfather when she married him. I guess we're related!

Sue, thank you for replying and the information. Would your cousin be Dan? Another cousin, Sonja, and I have corresponded with Dan and sent him some data. Sonja is presently waiting for War of 1812 records on Eliab to see if that helps us. We all "believe" that Eliab is William Henry's father. After the 1830 federal census of Washington DC, we don't find him listed anyplace. If he died, Jane may have re-married. I've done a little research on her side of the family trying to find our "proof." Also, William Henry did have siblings. His sister, Alba, married Joseph Amery (who was Permelia's brother.) According to the 1830 federal census, Wash DC, Eliab had four children.Sonja and I also stay in contact with descendants of Roland's sisters Mary Jane, Susannah, and Sophia. We believe that Mary Jane was named for Permelia's mother (Mary Cooksey Amery Ward) and William Henry's mother (Jane Robertson.)
Also, Eliab had a sister named Alba. Furthermore, one of the ancestors was named Abner. Coincidence? I don't think so. Oh, and Sonja's husband is descended from Roland's sister, Caroline Elizabeth "Eliza". We have never been able to find any further data on Roland's brother, Richard. I've also been doing research on Joe, who according to my great-aunt's family Bible, was another brother to Roland and Abner. Yes, we are related and it's great to meet new cousins!! :-)

Nancy, It sounds like you have a lot more info. than I do. Yes, Dan is my 2nd cousin. We grew up not very far from each other. I don't remember him very well though. He is the grandson of my dad's oldest stepbrother I would appreciate any information you are able to obtain though. This family history thing is new to me. I am just getting started. I am especially interested in things like what our ancestors did for a living, wars they were involved in and any other interesting stories you may have. I will also pass on to you any that I may find. Thank you for your correspondence. This will be fun! Susan Elizabeth Bunnell Stringham

Sue, as mentioned,we know Eliab was in the War of 1812. Abner Eliab Bunnell was in the US Civil War. He was a Confederate soldier.I know that Eliab Bunnell and William B. Robertson (brother to Jane, Eliab's wife) were in a manufacturing business of some kind in Washington, DC. (William B. Robertson married Ann Easterday in Washington DC and both Ann and Jane's names are recorded on a couple of DC land deeds. Yes, this is fun!

Hi Sue,
I am also researching the Bunnell family. My husbands ggrandmother Caroline Elizabeth Bunnell was Abner and Rolands sister. There was also other sisters Susanna Aurelia, Mary Jane, Sophia Virginia, and brother Richard at least they are the only ones we have so far. Nancy and I are friends and so is Dan we have never met we e mail each other a lot and both have been a great help.
There is a reunion of the Bentley and Bunnell clans in Anadarko Okla on the last Sunday of July. It is GREAT! We live in Bakersfield CA. If I can help with any information will be glad to , maybe between us all we can find something.

Hi Sonja, Nancy was telling me about you. I looked on the family history that Dan did and saw all the Bentley's on there. My dad (Joe Bunnell, son of Albert Ernest Bunnell) told me he would like to go to one of those big Bunnell reunions one day. We have our own small Bunnell family reunion every year in San Jose for the children, grandchildren, etc... of my grandfather, Albert Ernest. You might want to ask Dan if he's ever been to it because I've never seen him there. Also, I don't have Dan's email. I would be interested in asking him a few questions or maybe you could tell him about my visit to this site. As I was telling Nancy, I'm new to this family history thing. I think it's wonderful that you guy's have done all this work so far. I was telling Nancy that I live in Utah, the geneology capitol of the universe!, maybe there is something I can do on this end. Let me know.
