Our family knows that our ancester last name Hutton from Indiana was American Indian. The family story was that the Indian connection was his mother- Julia Ann Eades born in 1841 or 2 in northern KY or Madison IN. Her father was Thomas Eads or Eades who married Mary Dunn in Jefferson Co IN on 10/18 1839. Thomas was born in North Carolina around 1813-14. Any info about the Eades Indian connection NC, KY or Indiana would be very helpful- there are Eades on the Oklahoma Cherokee rolls but the name doesn't apear on the Eastern rolls.

I'm trying to trace my family back to Cherokee connection, too. Great great grandmother was Eades but I don't have more info on her. She married a Gregory.

The 1850 census of Carroll Co Kentucky gives the following for our ancestors: Thomas Eades 36 Farmer born NC, Mary 36 born Ky, Susan M. 13 KY, Julia A. 8 KY, Mary J. 6 KY, George W. 5, Margaret E. 4, John H?. 1 also there was a John Brown 38 born in KY.. didn't say what occupation... may have been related. Mary I later found out was a Dunn. Do any of these names relate to your family... and what is the story of Cherokee connection in youe family... we have to use family stories as no one would record "Indian"- this was the time of forced Ind. removals and families were hiding it.

I wonder who the John H. in your message is referring to...? I am researching an Eads line of John Harrison Eads who would be my grandfather, born 1889 in Wayne Co., MO. His ancestors came from N.C. to TN and through Cumberland Gap, TN/KY (maybe) on their way to Missouri. Any connection that you can see here. My John Harrison eventually married Effie Ellen Borders from Wayne Co., MO. Thanks, Carol at rcball@kih.net

The John H was written in a "fancy" handwriting and I only think the initial was H... I could tell the letters easier in the other names. This John was listed as born in Ky in 1849 so he wouldn't be the same John.... but it could still be a relative. We would be interested in where in NC your Eads family came from.

Our family has a story that an ancestor changed his name and took his wife's name to escape being identified for a crime of murder. This supposedly happened in the Newport News area of Virginia. His family were registered as Indian. This happened in the later 1700s. Any information you have on this family would be appreciated in tracking down this story.

I also have a Susan M. Eades in my family. She was my ggrandmother and her father was Drury Eades from Muhlenberg Co., Ky. Other names in this family are familiar Eades names, particularly Thomas. Susan was born about 1865. Am looking for info on Samuel Eades, son of Carrol from Albemarle, Va. c. 1811. Thanks
