Marsha: Jules married my great aunt Lily Belle Murray Brown Appleman and lived in Henryetta, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, he died in 1965.

Jules born March 4, 1881 in Belgium, LaCroix -Were passengers arriving on SS Zaandam to NY from Amsterdam, Oct 3, 1883, states he was naturalized 1885.

On the ships passenger list, page 1, pax 3,4,5,6,7 are listed Appelman or Appleman as follows, 7 is Jules at age 4, pax 3, appears to be Augustus ?age44, 4 is Marie b 1855, 5 Marie, dau age 14, 6 ??? a son. So we have mom,dad and 3 children.

Jules WWI draft card states coalminer, grey eyes and white hair???. I find he and Belle married in several census in Oklahoma. I have not found anyone else in my research.

Can or would you fill me in on any info on the clan. Names, naturalized, et al. Crazy Ancestry not providing info on them other than pax list..

Thanks, Bob Long

i just ran across your post. I know only the information you have given me and what I could find on ancestry. You mentioned that Jules was born in Belgium,LaCroix. I wasn't aware of the LaCroix part. I haven't been able to find any Belgium records for this family. I have Jule's father's name as Augustin. The surname might have originally been spelled, "Appelman" or "Appelmans" depending on where the name originated.

Have you had any luck since you posted this query? I have searched so long and hard with little to no result, I'm wondering if I've been searching with inaccurate information. Could Jules father have been born in Holland, as one of the censuses suggest under his brother, Arthur's name?

Really nothing more. Kinda quit looking on this family. Would love to see a pic of him and/or Belle. RJ Gahm has a tree and a Maxine ?.. old age getting me here.

My Dad born at Belle's boarding house, Midway Ks, Crawford county 30 June 1912. A Mrs Bunny was midwife to Bernice Elizabeth Lamberson, Belle was her aunt and married to a Ralph Brown at the time. Belle's daughter and son Thomas were Ralph's children.

Bernice's mother d 1904 and father was Richard Sheridan Lamberson who then married a Scottish Widow, Agnes Cook Gahm with many children of her own. Maxine ??? mentioned above is daughter of Thomas Brown aha it came to me Becker is her last name. Daughter was Pearl Brown who died in North Highlands, CA

Belle was my grandmother Bernice's Aunt.. totally confused yet???

Keep in touch, Bob Long, Cameron MO
I am on ancestry.

I might have a snapshot of the two of them: Jules and Belle. Let me look around a little. If you give me your email address, I'll send it to you.

I have looked and looked for any photos I might have of either Jules or Belle and haven't found one. I realized finally, that the photo I was thinking was of Belle was actually a photo of someone from a completely different family. I'm sorry.

How else might I help you? I am a descendant of Mary (Appleman) Thibaut, Ledin. Mary was a sister to Jules and arrived on the same ship as did Jules and the rest of the immediate family. I do have pictures of Mary. I learned from a distant Appleman connection, that Mary kept an old trunk near her bed with all of her earlier possessions in it but that when she died, her daughter-in-law took all of it to the town dump. I want to shoot her! Just think of the treasures that might have been inside of that trunk!

The only information I've been able to find on the Appleman (Appelman, Appelmans)A family is the ship's manifest list for their immigration to the USA. It's very difficult to learn anything about a person from just a name and/or date found on some list. If you are a subscriber to ancestry.com, then you know everything I know. I have census information and what I gathered from the ship manifest.

I'd like to ask where you learned that Jules originated from LaCroix in Belgium. Have you tried searching for any of the family members in that part of the country? Births, deaths, marriages, etc.? I'm thinking that if we have the names and dates of births and if they lived in that area at the time of their births, it might be easy to request a look-up from someone in the area. Have you already tried that route? If we know for sure that LaCroix is the area we need to be researching, maybe we can make contact with someone from that area and ask for a look-up. Are we sure about the LaCroix part?
