Hello, I am working on getting the Letcher, SD History book published in 1983 for the Letcher Centennial on line.
The only mention of John Seward and Margaret Welch is under the Patrick Welch Family I do not who submitted the information. The Welch information is on pg 440 his son Peter James Welch is coverage on pg 441 & 442.

The information for Margaret Welch married John Seward. They had four children Edward Seward, Mamie Murphy, James Seward and Lavina Kelly.
I am assuming the girls last names must be their named names.
There is no Kelly information in the book.
There is a Paul Murphy listed. his son:
Owen married Mary (Mamie) Seward. She had come from Iowa with her folks, John and Margaret (Welch) Seaward in 1883, and they homesteaded north of Letcher. Mamie had two brothers and one sister. Ed married Nora Eitel and they had three children, Cora, Laura, and Walter. Jim married Hazel Lee. They had one son, Lee. Hazels lives in a retirement home in Mitchell. Vinnie married Ed Kelly and they lived in Mason City, Iowa. Owen and Mamie moved west to Vivian, SD., in 1905. They homesteaded nine miles north of Vivian. They had three children, Marion and Wilfred, born in Letcher, and Margaret, born while they lived in Vivian

Surnames: Seward, Murphy
Thanks for noticing my query. I have a copy of that Letcher history book, which my father-in-law, Marion Murphy, had. I have John Seward living in Wisconsin in 1850, which was the year he was born.
