I am trying to track down info on this marriage. William Tisdale 1666/died 1706 or 1708 in Virginia. Lived in in Somerset Maryland when his children John William and Sarah were born. He is my 7greatGrandfather. I have seen Ann Renison in several trees, but can find no sourcing and no date of marriage. Some info seems to show she was born in England, which would lead one to think William was born there too. BUT....None of the entries I have been able to find give any background for he names, just the listing. Does anyone have any data?????

Also, some of the trees show a marriage to Mary Ann Hunter, but the only one I can find was born in the 1800s and is not the right person.

Actually, I am the one who found all of the info of the southern Tisdales before the Rev War. Based on naming patterns, I SPECULATED that William Tisdale married Anne Renison, I also SPECULATED that his twin son, William, married Anne Pleasants. Other people have added this info to their trees without any verification. If you find any original documents that show the surnames of these two wives, please share it. I only use DAR standards in my research. Thanks.

I am a direct decendant of the Tisdales from Lunenburg, My mother being Martha Tisdale. The old house still stands that was built in 1801. William and Ann Renison's story may never be found only in the story that has been handed down through the family. Three sons ( William, John, Renison) of William (1666) bought land in Lunenburg County and there is the confusion between the Tisdales of Virginia and South Carolina. William (1692) married Ann Pleasant in which they had a daughter Patience. I do have the family tree traced back to 1545. Unfortunately, you may never prove that William was the son of John(1642-1677) because there was an Indian uprising in which the town was burned including the church where records were kept and John was killed. Most only knew of John's daughter Abigail ( she was married at the time). Renison family and the Tisdale family were well known to each other since both familes came from Yorkshire , England. William (1666)Named hi9s first born twin sons William and John, one named after himself andJohn after his father. The names Thomas, John, William and Renison has been passed down though generations of my family

I am interestedd in your post that Renison was also a son of William 1666. What date do you have and birth place? Also I have a document from the state of Maryland that the twins John and William 1691, had sister Sarah 1692. I can find nothing on a Renison son of William 1666. If you respond, please use at least birthday of people you are talking about as the names are repeated often in different generations.

ALSO: can find NO connection to the Tisdales in Taunton MASS. Is the John, father of Abigal, the John about 1730 in MASS, or the John you referenced 1642. I am a bit confused with the duplications of Johns, Williams, etc! :-)
Thanks

"April 19th 1693 Sarah Tisdale daughter of William Tisdale & borne of Anne his wife at Animessex September the ninth anno Domini one thousand six hundred & ninety

ditto diem William Tisdale & John Disdale sons of Wm Tisdale & born of Anne his wife the 28th day of ffebruary anno Domini one thousand six hundred ninety two 3ds
END COPY

It is believed that William 1666 and ANN (renison maybe...not proved) and the children moved to Virgina Where John 1730 was born
(John Born 20 Feb 1730 Goohland Co, VA
Died 14 Nov 1813 Sumter, Sumter Co., SC
Married Mary Jane Haley James 1740 - 1817
...JOHN TISDLE departed this life on th 14th of Nov, 1813 aged 83 years, 8 months, and 24 days)

They then moved on to South Carolina. I am very interested in proof of the Renison connection and a possible Taunton Mass connection.

John Tisdale (1614-1675) came over on the Mayflower with daughter Abigail. John had a son born in Duxbury , Plymoth , Mass. named John (1642-1677). John (1642) married Hanah Rodgers which had a son William (1666). John(1642) was killed in an Indian Masscre in which church and all records of birth and marriage stored there were deystroyed. William married Ann Renison. They had twin sons William and John and a daughtewr in Sommerset, Maryland. They moved to Amelia County , Virginia and had two younger sons Renison and Henry. Since these Threads do not allow full coverage of the Family tree, but, I know this as fact since the orignal land grant from the king ended up pass down from eldest son to eldest son and ended up in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

After an exhaustive search Of King Phillips War that took place around Taunton, Massachusetts in 1675 which was an Indian war, I found that in Indiansn attacked the settlement in 1675 John Tisdale was killed and home burned. Two Indians( pachomshe and Massamaquat)were tried and found guilty. Sarah Walker Tisdale took abigail who was the 14 and William who was 9 to live with her kin people the Browne's. John Jr being the oldest took over what was left his father's homestead following English Law. John Jr. committed suicide 2 years later in 1677. Not exactly sure the movement of the Browne Family, however you have to member that Somerset, Maryland was part of the Masschussets Colony until the king of England split up the colony into Massachusetts and Maryland giving Lord Baltimore governorship of Maryland. Due to King Phillps War, a lot of families history was lost and people displaced. To get anything accurate you would have to get shovels and start digging and do DNA tests. In Chesterfield County court house( Chesterfield County being part of Ameila County in colonial days) there is the last will and testament of William Tisdale(1666-1712)

I would love to know where you found the source of John's (b. 1730) wife being Mary Jane Haley James.
