I have a Thomas Bell born in Ireland around 1731. He married a Jane ? He had a son Thomas born 1760 Ireland, Robert, and William that I know of. Robert was born in 1752 in Ireland and william was born in 1754 in Ireland and married Rachel Waters. william died Dec 12 1838.
Thomas came over on ship 5 Sept. 1757 on the Brig Lord Dwnagannon. Arrived in Charleston Nov 1757. Don't know if it is the same.

I have this same Thomas Bell (married Jane Webb or Steele), but my records indicate that he is one of my (many times) greats. His oldest son, James Adam (at least that's what I have) is my ancestor. James married Mary McClure (who I think came over from Ireland on the same ship with her family in 1767).
I don't know if I have any new info for you, but I'd be glad to share what I do have.

Need help please!
Is James and Adam the same person? I have Adam Sr married to Mary McClure born circa 1745 and his birth 1745 Ireland which cannot be correct if he is the son of Thomas and Jane or who were his parents? Or who were James H Bell Sr parents? Any info really appreciated.

My lineage :
Peggy Myers > Joveta Louise Bell 1905-1986 (my grandmother) >Joseph Siefis Bell 1872-1966 > James Bell 1842-after 1880 > Thomas Bell 1812-ca 1875 > James H Bell Sr 1770-1823 > Adam Bell Sr 1745-1805 > Thomas Sr 1731-1795.

This Adam/James/William/Robert dispute has been ongoing among us Bell descendants for quite some time. I continued my research since my previous posting and my current records show that James H., Sr (married to Sarah/Sallie F/Phinney) is the son of Thomas & I suspect that Adam is a brother of Thomas. I DON'T KNOW THIS. I only suspect it. I cannot find any record of Thomas after he settles in Laurens county. It would be helpful if I could find a will/grave, or something, but no luck thus far. Adding to the confusion, every generation named a son after a brother, it seems. I don't know if this helps, but happy hunting nonetheless!
