Hi
Just a few thoughts.

Dum Dum is nearby to Calcutta, West Bengal. There was a munitions factory there and it did make bullets for the British Army, most famously the dumdum bullet!
You say you have Guy's wedding cert, does it have Walter's occupation listed? How do you know he was in the Army?
What about his mother? Have you got her name ie. maiden name?
Were there no brothers or sisters? Where was Guy brought up?
If you have any more info post it and someone may be able to help.

hi thanks for the reply, this is everything I have so far Guy Aubrey Payne was born in India 1/11/1931 he died 2006 in nottingham. My mother tells me Guys father was a warrant officer in the Britsh Army and that he married an Indian girl. Family tell me Guy had much older siblings one of who was Sissy, sissy married a french man and had son named Patrice.
On the wedding cert his occupation is an engineer ( retired )A witness to the marriage was a G R Payne. Guys Address was 1 Lancaster Road E7, I have the G R payne registered at the same address ( telephone ) in the 1960's. So i would assume this was Guy's mother.
Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated

If you have not already done so try the India Office Library Records, they have a family history section, or the Families in British India Societyy, FIBIS. If he was in the British Army which Regiment/Division was he in? Try the National Army Museum.

Hi
Well you certainly seem to have a problem with the Payne family. I have been looking for anything to help but it is always exceedingly difficult when you have very little info to go on.
However, I did find a marriage for
Ralph William Payne and Norah Elizabeth Young, 11 Feb 1929 in Calcutta, Bengal, India. The father of the groom is given as Arnold Walter Payne. You may already have found it but if not it is in familysearch.org.

You said you have Guy's marriage cert, does it mention if the father is deceased? Does any family member know if Walter was born in UK? Do you have any old pics with notes on the back?
I cannot find the death cert for Guy in 2006, do you know for certain it was Nottingham. As I live in Derbyshire it would be interesting to know where exactly he died. Was Sissy short for another name and did she marry in UK or abroad? If you can come up with any other details it will help.

On the marriage cert Guy's father is listed as an engineer and retired.
The death record I have is correct as it gives Guy's birth date and my mum has confirmed it is his, also the last known place he lived was Nottingham, i have also found a 2nd marraige record for Guy to Elizabeth Byrne.
I did not see the marriage of Ralph William Payne i will look into that and see what I can find.
I have used the national archives and british India sites, there is nothing, so I'm begining to question if family info on Walter Arnold Payne being in the army is incorrect, perhaps(as suggested by another poster) walter may have worked in dumdum making something for the army.
Out of desperation i googled " walter Arnold Payne" this lead me to a record on another site, I have contacted the owner she said Walter Arnold Payne Baptiste was baptised in calcuta India in 1885. Im also thinking if this is him perhaps he dropped the baptist at some point.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions,

Hope it does not just confuse but you said there was an older sister "Sissy" (Cecilia? Celia? Elizabeth? The last Empress of Austria, Elizabeth, was always known as "Sissi") who maried a Frenchman. Baptiste is very French, was this a descendent of the French connection and not your person just dropping the name? I think the National Army Museum could help pinpoint if he was ever in the army - or if not at least you would know that for sure. Good luck.
