Searching for Etheldred Howell's parents. Etheldred's last residence was in Hardin Co., TN. Etheldred's wife's name was Nancy Emaline Scott. Any information on Etheldred's family and parents would be greatly appreciated.

What's the time frame on him. My oldest Howell was
Ethelred b: in 1668 in Wales. He migrated to VA but
don't have a death date or place. His kids were in NC
then TN, then Alabama, then Oklahoma and Norther Texas
(down through the generations). If we aren't talking
about the same Ethelred I'll bet he's a decendant. That's
not a common name.

My greatgrandfather, Etheldred, was born in 1812. I agree with you that there is a connection with your Etheldred, but there are a lot of years between the two. I first located him in the TN, Hardin Co, census in 1840 with a wife, Nancy Emaline (Scott). Etheldred died on a trip to New Orleans just before the 1850 Census, but have been able to track Nancy and all Her children, six to Henderson, Co. We don't know any thing about Etheldred's ancestors, where they came from prior to Hardin Co., TN. There was a Jordon Howell on the same census - I believe he was a close relative, maybe not his father, because we have a list of Jordon's children. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the reply.

Is it possible that your Howell tree decended for Jesse C. Howell or one of his sons or brothers?
Maurey County, TN was a very busy place until just after the end of the CivIl War.
My tree decends from Ethered (Wales thought to be 1638) on doen via Jesse C., John Oliver, William Allen Boyd Howell, Art, Boyd, etc.

Yes this is the same line. Your Jesse C. (if it's the one
born abt 1800) was the son of John Howell, also son of John
H. Howell, s/o Henry Howell, son of Ethelred Edward Howell.

My line decends from John H. Howell's brother Ralph Howell
(also s/o Henry Howell).

Someone sent me information on your line if you are interested.

We have a match. I was just looking at some old records sent to an attorney in Nashville in 1908. I have record that an Etheldrd (Ethelred) Howell was an immigrant from England to Jamestown in the 17th century. His son Henry Howell was born in 1693 and eventually moved to N.C. This has to be the same person. Please contact me by email at, or by phone (901)3847776.
