Surnames: Cahill and Grady
Searching the Cahill family..have info where Hugh was born 1850 in Nova Scotia, imm to US in 1880, married Ann Agnes Grady in Duluth and raised their family in Duluth. His father may be Thomas Cahill. What was the route he may have taken in that time?

Also, I believe the Grady family came from Nova Scotia.

Can someone help me? Thanks, Lindy Wise

Hello, I've been looking for your folks since I saw your Query. I haven't been able to find Hugh on the Canadian side but his Death Record of 1939 confirms his father was Thomas Cahill and mother was Ellen Ryan.
Regards Agnes Ann(Grady) Cahill, Hugh's wife, born about 1863 in Guysborough Co.,NS, her parents were Tobias and Elizabeth(O'Gorman)Grady and they moved to Prince Edward Island just before the 1871 Census but you can see the family in the 1881 Census in PEI at the Census Page below.

About three years later they leave for Duluth, Minn too.
There is a birth record for Richard James Grady, a brother to Agnes in NS Vital Stats (on line) in 1865.

Hope this info is useful. You will see on the 1881 Census that Tobias's first three children were born in NS, Guys Co.
It is also interesting that Hugh and Agnes named some of their children after her brothers and father Tobias.
Cheers.

Thank you for your reply, and every piece is part of the puzzle. Where may I find a death record for Hugh Cahill? It is interesting that both Cahill and Grady families moved to Duluth about the same time..can you imagine moving with all the children? Wondering how they came, must have been by boat but can't find anything on that. Both had many children and anything you can add will be appreciated. Are you part of either of the families? Thank you, Lindy Wise

Hi Lindy, I have no connection to the families. I haven't confirmed that Hugh's family went west either. There is a Thomas and Ellen Cahill in the PEI 1881 Census but Ellen's age is forty-two so they may not be Hugh's parents.

I made an error in my first posting, Hugh's mother was Ellen Ryan rather than Grady. You will find Hugh and Ellen's Death record in the following site.
https://familysearch.org/
When you open it, you will see little boxes to put the names in for searching but if you scroll down the page, click on the US and then you will see many sites, such as Minn. Death Records.

Thank you for your reply, I've been working on the Cahill and Grady lines and will get back to you in a day or so. Just wanted you to know I'm still here. Thanks, Lindy

OK Lindy. I finally found Hugh(born 1853)in the 1880 Census your side.
He is in Lyndon, Caledonia, Vermont. Age 27 and he is a
brakeman on a train which probably answers your query on how
he ended up in Duluth by 1885 or so.
His parents were both born in Ireland.
Do you know if Hugh had any brothers or sisters???
