Larance family search

Surnames: Willy, Jahue, Larance
My great-grandfather was Willy Jahue Larance who owned a sizable amount of Lincoln Parish land (800 plus acres) and had 10 children. I'm trying to find out how and when he came to Louisiana, when and where he married, where he came from, and where he was burried? My grandfather was Thomas A. Larance, storekeeper, farmer, postmaster of Hilly, Louisiana. Any leads would be most welcomed. Charles L. Larance, St. Louis, Mo.

I read your post on your grandfather and great grandfather. My father's name was Willis Allen Larance. His father was Wesley Howard Larance. My grandfather, Wesley Howard, was also from Hilly, Louisiana. My grandfather had a brother named Velmer Jahue Larance. My father was killed in action in WWII so I know very little about his side of the family. I just thought the similarities in the names were remarkable. I wish I had more information, but I am afraid I do not.

Good luck in your search.

I believe your Willy Jahue LARANCE is the William Jahue LARANCE in the below family group sheet. He was married to my first cousin, twice removed Mary Samantha "Mollie" COLVIN. They married 5 Jan 1876 in Lincoln Parish, LA.

The Larance family has been around Hilly La. and Vienna a long time. My uncle who passed away in 2010 never had any kids, and you can tell by his name, that he was related to your Grandfather. Here's the link to his obituary:

I've been corresponding with a Melissa out of Ft. Worth Tx. She has done a lot of research into the Larance family, as has my aunt Rose. A little bit of history: The Larance's ran the cajuns out of Nova Scotia Canada, and then followed them to La. They were a religous family and evidently them, and several other families followed each other from the east coast before settling in La. You will find a lot of marriages between 2nd and 3rd cousins. My grandparents were 2nd cousins. When I went over the 1940's censes with my mother, she knew everyone practically in Lincoln parrish. Uncle such and such ran the fruit stand, Uncle this ran the saw mill factory. They were hard working people.
