Cantleys & Indian Blood

I work at the Raleigh County Library and was talking to a visitor today from Charlottesville, VA who is a Cantley descendant and he said that somewhere down the line the Cantley's had an ancestor that was called Red Jacket that fell in with the Indians. He said that my cheekbones were high, my dark hair all showed it. If so, where down the line did the Cantley ancestor and what Indian tribe did he fall in with, or is this just a joke? I had never heard this story before, so I don't know and need to talk to someone who may know about it. My Cantley grandfather has passed on, and was never one to really talk about family genealogy, so I don't know for sure. There's no one on that side of the family to ask, so I need to find more about the story. He said that he had found out about it in a book someone had had. Can someone out there help me?

Anita, I am Mabel June Cantley Wilson. I am from Brounland, Kan., Co., WV. I, too, am interested in finding out if we are indeed part Indian. I have a copy of Hugh Voress Book and see that you helped him a lot with it. It is a wonderful book and it takes a while to realize it and work from it. Also, Have you heard of an Arthur Oscar Cantley that came over on the "Oceane" from England to Connecticut?
He was 20 yrs. old in 1905 and that is when he sailed
over here. Let me hear from you.

Sorry I should've added more information.
I am from the Cantley line and both of my grandparents have passed.
My grandmother said that she had an ancestor that was full blooded indian princess.

My grandparents were Allen Elicot Cantley and Mary Jane Myers Cantley. When they died I was left some of their
pictures. I have one of an Indian, dressed in Indian
clothing, feathers and all, standing in their yard. It is
in pretty bad shape. I have never heard the story of this
one.

I'm not sure if we are from the same family or not.
I don't have much information on my Cantley relatives.
My grandfather was Eugene Lee Cantley born in 1923, his parents were Linville Christopher Cantley and Nettie Mae Williams.

I have ran across an interesting family in the Cantley Family book by Hugh Voress. Mary Agnes Cantley, b.
married man with last name Morris, upon researching
his family, I found they were Indians. I don't know
very much about it. I have a picture my grandmother had
of a family of Morris and another with an Indian standing
in her yard. That is all I know. I have also found that
Mary Agnes was married twice. The 2nd time to a Rose.

For your consideration - The Cantleys have Melungeon blood that has been classified as Black Dutch. Also, there are many stories in families with Melungeon blood concerning "Indian Princesses". Guess it was better to be Indian than Melungeon. The Melungeon blood could acount for the high cheek bones and dark complexion - My gggrandfather was James Allen Cantley s/o James Ellison Cantley & Virginia Green - Allen Ellicot was James Ellison's brother, I believe.
