My Great Grandfathers name was George McCartney. He married Elizabeth Shuler. George was a German Immigrant as a child. Settled in Pa. Had a son named Martin McCartney (Marty). He married Alice Kingsborough. They also had a daughter Dorothy who died around the age of 19 in a motorcycle accident. Martin was born in 1907 and died in 1971. I do not know when George was born or when he died.

Bonni, there were some George McCartney's in and around Huntingdon County, where my ancestors settled, but since they're not in a direct line with my family, I don't know a lot about them. We haven't tied any of them into us as yet. Loretta

How did a German Immigrint get the name of
McCartney? I have three Georges in the family
George Sr.Born ? died 1847,Son George,died in 1864
in the Civil War. Then another son George to take his place I guess
,he was born 1830.George Sr. was originally from Lancaster Co.
but all are buried in Alleghney Co. I don't know if we connect or not

I don't know Joan. All I know is what I was told. A McCartney could've moved from Scotland or somewhere else to Germany for some reason and from there to America. This is what I have been told from my mother Dolores McCartney, McCartney being her maiden name. She was the only child of her father Martin Mccartney and Alice Kingsborough, Maiden name kingsbourough. They lived in the Harrisburg Pa area. I have not been able to find a George McCartney that fits it even close and even if george really wsn't from Germany as a child. But my grandfather was very interested in anything German and my mother has always wanted to see Germany due to her lineage there.Maybe they were illegal immigrant. I don't know but I don't think I will ever find them and especially since the name has died out. I don't know if my great grand father had any brothers or sisters, makes it difficult. Thaks for your replies. Very much appreciated.
