Hello to all,

I have hit a road block bigtime and it is giving me a headache. My gr.grandfather is Leroy Lafayette Donnels. I believe that he may have been born around the ARK/TX/LA border area as he moved around in that area growing up and into adulthood. I think he may have been born April 1871 around Stamps, Ark area. I believe his father's name may have been William Donnels (b. 1847, maybe AL/TX/ARK?) and I know he is related to Maude Malone but I know nothing else about him. I do not know the official names of Leroy Laf. parents (if it is William and ?) or if there were any siblings? I also believe that Leroy may have married Nettie Baker Dodd? who may have also been from Ark. (they divorced around 1900 or after as he lived in Shreveport at that time) but I have no info. on her either? Looking for anyone who may be able to suggest info or where to start? Thanks for any help?

Thanks for the info but that is what I already had on Leroy (He was in Missouri for the 1920 Census and then moved to LA definately from 1930 on). I can't find who his parents are and if he was definately born in the Arkansas area? I was also trying to locate his first wife, Nettie Baker Dodd (and any info. on her as well if she is from ARK.) as Alma is his 2nd wife. This is why I keep hitting the brickwall.

How's Spain? Bet you it is beautiful. I just recently found the same 1900 census with Maud Malone as William's grandmother. Having the same problem as before, I can't find the missing link in-between Maud and William. As William's dad is Leroy Lafayette it would line up Maud as either his mother (which means that she would've been married to someone named Donnels before she became a Malone, or she had a daughter who may have married Leroy) this is the missing link/brickwall. I have looked for marriage licenses for anyone named Donnels in most of the Southeastern states in the US but have had no luck. I have also looked through quite a number of Census' in many states and just can't locate Leroy's first wife, (who I believe is possibly Nettie Baker as I have a family marriage license with her listed as the mother, and another family member has a death certificate listing Nettie B. Dodd as her last name at her sons death.) I had never heard of her name until my grandfather passed away and I found the marriage license for gr.grandparents. So now I find myself in that annoying gap area that I can't dig myself out of the hole. Leroy's marriage license is where I found that he was born in Arkansas although sometimes he states Texas on the census.

Thanks for finding the 1920 Census as I didn't have that one. I have since learned that Amanda is Amanda Hickey who married William Donel in Lafayette Co., Ark. in 1871. Then there is no further info I could locate on them. As Amanda became Maud/Manda Malone by son's birth in 1878/9 I couldn't locate what happened to William Donel (should've been Donnels) and how many children she had with him other than Leroy Lafayette (had to be inbetween Census years). I hate to assume but Wm Malone was born in Ark. so I was thinking she was still living in that area and may have buried Donnels there if he died but I couldn't locate that info. anywhere either. Still hitting that same wall.
