Mary and Michael Keating of Kingstown, Co Tipperary

Surnames: Keating, Hawkins
Hi All,

I'm seeking information on my GG Grandmother, Mary Keating, born Kingstown, Co Tipperary 1879 or 1881.
she married Henry J Hawkins (English) in Rathdown, Co Dublin in 1901.

Details on their marriage certificate:
Father: Michael Keating, stone cutter, dead
Witnessed by: Michael Keating (probably her brother).

If anyone thinks they have a connection, or can help, I would love to hear from you.

Cheers,

Lisa

You could try for a birth certificate for Mary. Just did a quick search of the Irish Civil Registration Index and there are a number of births for Mary Keatings in 1881 but I could find none in 1879. Kingstown is near Clonmel so perhaps you could narrow them down by Clonmel registration district. If you haven't got it already the website ishttp://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0
Once you get a possible reference you can order the cert online at www.groireland.ie
Hope this is of use

Hi Annclare,

Thanks for replying.
After searching the website I've found quite a few possibilities(10).I think I've narrowed it down to three, two in Clonmel for 1880 and one from 1879 in Clogheen. Is Clogheen near Kingstown?
I wish they would give us a little more information on the index search's!!

Clogheen is about 30 km from Kingstown see map http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Kingstown+Tipperary&...
Looking at this map again it seems Kingstown is nearer Cashel than Clonmel so I may have given you a wrong lead you should also try Cashel Registration district. I'm afraid it is a bit of a "lucky dip"

I just doublechecked Kingstown is included in the Cashel registration district not Clonmel. Sorry about the confusion

Hi Annclare,

I agree, totally a lucky dip, and costly too if you pick wrong (I've spent a fortune on this tree, lol).
You haven't given me any wrong leads, any help is better than nothing. I will definitely have a look at Cashel.
I've contacted the place where you order the certificates from to see if I can pay them to search (I've done this with a couple of UK certificates).
Thanks again,
Lisa

Hi Barbara,

I've only just started with the Keating's. I only have my GG Grandmother Mary and her father Michael. I do have a photo of Mary standing with what I believe is her sister and her Grandparents.
If I come across your names I'll be sure to let you know. I'm happy to share any certs, photos etc.

Hi Lisa,

Good hunting with the Keating family.

William Nathaniel Keating/e is my GGGrandfather born abt 1855 in Clonmel.
His father was also William born early 1800's no doubt.

Was your family Church of Ireland or Catholic.

Have you had a look at the Family search site and the Pilot Search??
There are a lot of Keatings on there, birth, marriage & death. Might help you.

Good hunting and I will keep you in mind also.

Regards
Barbara

Hi Again,

I've looked at countless websites, including Pilot which I think is the best for Irish searches.

Mary was married at the Catholic chapel, St Joseph's, district of Kingstown, district Rathdown, County Dublin in 1901.
Mary and her husband Henry Hawkins moved to UK after they were married, so I was able to find them on the UK 1911 census. On the census it says Mary was born in Kingstown.

Have you been able to find any Irish census records?? I can't.

email me direct at tigerden1@bigpond.com if you want.
