Hi Christopher,

I wrote you separately by email but also wished to post this publicly. There was a book titled "The Jett and Allied Families," by Jeter Lee Jett. It was published in 1896 and then another publishing in 1978 with an index by James F. Lewis. I do not have the book. I just went to the LDS Family Search site and entered JETT in a surname search and found a bunch opf books that have some Jett info, including the above title; Go to:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.a... and click on Surname Search and then serch Jett.

Now, specifically, I did a quick search for your Roy and Hugh JETTs in/near Charlottesville (which I sent to you directly,too) I will look for more, but it may be a couple of days:

1930 Federal Census - Virginia
Charlottesville City, Part of 3rd Ward, E.D. 104, Sheet 2A;
Enumerated 03 April 1930 by Lewis S. Little.

"South Street" handwritten in left margin.

Lines 22-25, House Number 225, Dwelling #24, Family #41:
Jett, Hugh M., Head, Rents, $16 (month), M, W, 44, Mrd., at age 32, can read/write, he & both parents b. VA, speaks Eng., Foreman, City Construction, wages, not a veteran;
---- , Bettie A., Wife, F, W, 34, Mrd., at age 22, can read/write, she & both parents b. VA, speaks Eng.;
---- , James H., Son, M, W, 11, Sgl., attended school, can read/write, he & both parents b. VA, speaks Eng.;
---- , Roy M., Son, M, W, 7 & 5/12, Sgl., attended school, can read/write, he & both parents b. VA.
===end.

1920 Federal Census - Virginia
Albemarle County, City of Charlottesville, E.D. 22, Sheet 6A;
Enumerated 06 Jan 1920 by Mxxxxx? Mercer.

"Monticello Avenue" handwritten in left margin.

Lines 1-3, House Number not entered, Dwelling #86, Family #100:
Jett, Hugh M., Head, Rents, M, W, 34, Mrd., can read/write, he & both parents b. VA, speaks Eng., Foreman, Convict Camp, wages;
---- , Bettie A., Wife, F, W, 25, Mrd., can read/write, she & both parents b. VA, speaks Eng.;
---- , James, Son, M, W, 1 & 4/12, Sgl., he & both parents b. VA.
=====end census item.

Also, in 1920, in Albemarle Co., there is another Hugh M. JETT, age 35, Mrd. (but no other Jett family members listed), a lodger in the home of Douglas & Rosa Brown. He is also a Foreman in a Convict Camp~

It's possible he is the same person and stayed at a place near the camp and the Browns reported him when they were enumerated. Or, it could be a completely different person - perhaps a cousin??
===end.

I have JETT ancestry in VA, so we probably connect along the line somewhere. Good luck Cousin~

1910 census - is Fitzhugh Hugh? (Was "Re: Is there a geneology out there I can purchase for Jett?")

Hi,

I couldn't find a Hugh JETT indexed for 1910 in VA. Since in 1920 Hugh JETT is 34, I would be looking for a man about 25.

I found a Fitzhugh JETT age 25; I am thinking a Fitzhugh could easily become known as Hugh? Anyone else have info on this??

1910 Federal Census - Virginia

I am sorry, but I do not have any copies of either of the Jett Trails books available for sale. I will try to help you with your questions regarding thje Jett families of Northumberland County, Virginia.

Luther Stowers Jett, b. May 1855 and Leonard Starke Jett, b. Aug 8, 1859 were sons of William Edward Jett and his third wife, Virginia C. Covington. Other wives of William Edward were Margaret B. Waddy and Mary A. Ball Haynie.

Children of Luther Stowers Jett and Virginia Dixie Haynie were William , Mary Virginia, Fitzhugh Lee (who is your Hugh Jett, father of Roy), Sarah Camilla, Luther Japeth, Margaret Lila, Etta Catherine, Bessie Alverta, Myrtle Elizabeth, and Elliott Thornton.

Children of Leoonard Starke Jett, b. Aug 19, 1859 and Betty E. Moore, who he married Mar.28, 1885 was Wilmer L. Jett. He may have married again, as the 1900 Census shows his wife of 9 years was Atella T. with two children
by her, Orien b. Mar 1893 and Lewis, b. 1899.

Ancestors of William Edward Jett were Thomas Harding Jett, b. abt 1787, William Jett, b. abt 1760 (m. Elizabeth Hudnall), Birkett Jett, (m. Elizabeth Monroe), Francis Jett, b. abt 1699 (m. Margaret Peyton), John Jett, b. aft 1664 (m. Elizabeth Triplett), and Peter Jett b. abt 1633 in England (m. Mary Tripllett).

Hello folks...I too descend from the JETT family and do have both Leonard Starke Jett & Luther Stowers Jett as being sons of William E. Jett...Luther married once to Virginia Dixie Haynie and they had 10 known children...Leonard married twice and had a total of 5 known children. The "Hugh" was in fact a son of Luther and his given name was Fitzhugh Lee Jett...he married Vida Agnes Gardener and I do not yet have any information on their children. Feel free to email me for any additional details or add to my need for a listing of "Hugh's" children. Thank you kindly and best of luck to all of you~~~Laurie
