Re: mauretania passenger lists
Hi,
I can't help you with passenger lists, but you should know that the Mauretania was used as a troop ship during World War 1. I don't know exactly when she was returned to civilian service but it wouldn't have been before January, 1919.
My grandmother, an army nurse, returned home aboard Mauretania in December 1918. They landed in NY City at the very end of December - she told me that she spent Christmas Eve on the high seas and New Year's Eve in New York.

Re: mauretania passenger lists
There are numerous records found at Ellis Island for passengers on the Mauretania... in 1918 ! But there are no records from 1914-1917
HOWEVER the Maruretania did arrive 12/30/1918 AND there are no Ellis Island records... obviously it was used to perhaps transport troops on that trip.

Re: mauretania passenger lists
Thank you for the prompt reply.Purchased a unique book that was kept by Chief Surgeon B Sydney Jones. It is called the Archive Of the Heathens. Its contents are pictures, drawings, signed menus and signatures of 150 people from 1907 to 1914.Most of the names I have deciphered, but there are around 50 that I have partial names. Most of the names are very famous people from that era(Irving Berlin,Jerome Kern,Constance Collier,Alice Lloyd, ect)Maybe there would be some way my partial names would lead to full names of the passengers on your list.If you can be of any help please let me know.Regards.

it appears that SURGEON: B. SYDNEY JONES worked for the Cunard Line - R.M.S. "AQUITANIA" - he was on this ship sailing from S'hampton to NY 10th Aug 1929 (example)
on the same ship arriving 8 jun 1923 Name: Irving Berlin Arrival Date: 8 Jun 1923 Birth Year: abt 1888 Age: 35 Years 1 Months Gender: Male Port of Departure: Southampton Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Aquitania
cannot see Berlin on same ship at another time
B Sydney Jones is showing on that ship 53 times from 1922 to 1929

I have been trying to find out if Dr Jones remained on the Mauretania during the war.Your records seem to indicate he transferred to the Aquitania in 1922.My problem is deciphering illegible names. For instance,I have a Frederick Cyril(no last name) from Dec 13,1912 ,a Richard ???,from Oct 18,1912 , both on the Mauretania.I need to decipher as many names as I can before I go on to the next stage of my research. Many are illegible with partial names, hence my dilemma.I am glad to know Dr Jones did not perish during the war.Thank you for your efforts. Regards.
